We had a great time at the 5th NRVMCS in Snowville, VA. Mountain top to hill top artillery shooting adds a new element of challenge, but actually made the range calculations more fun to do. Our Targets were cardboard squares, 12 X 12 inches and two, one gallon ice tea jugs at 300 yards. Tim nailed the tiny pond at 200plus yards and a tall geyser of water resulted. He was facing a stiff wind from 12 to two o'clock. Mike blew up a piece of shale next to one jug which peppered it and I skipped a bolt off a piece at the bottom edge of a cardboard square. Shards of rock, the bolt and a handful of dirt almost destroyed that square.
That shale was a blessing in disguise, because it had rained hard for two days before the shoot, yet large puffs of dust were thrown up with almost every shot at 300. I believe the steel bolts swished through the surface muck and then blew up a piece of shale dislodging others and dry dirt underneath. this made spotting easy despite the wet conditions.
Mike and I want to thank Tim and Dale for arranging and the Minister for hosting this shoot. We met some very nice people and had lots of fun answering questions.
