Ruger factory shut down

Call Ruger today and was told they will be closed in july for I would guess repair or whatever so if you plan on a repair better call to get details.

I would venture to say they are closed to upgrade their equipment, or to do extensive maintenance.  They are so far behind on orders that they can not afford to shut down for any other reason.

Around here, most factories shut down the week of the 4th of July and/or the week after Christmas for maintenance.  Maintenance workers usually MUST work during this time to rebuild and repair tools, machines, and assembly lines. Sometimes something as simple as painting is done.  When workers get back, production is at full steam again.  If you were a factory worker, those were usually the only two weeks you had off during the year.  Maintenance guys could take off anytime.

That is not good news.  I've been waiting way too long for the Ruger 1911 to be available at a reasonable price.  Heck, I haven't even seen one, not at shops, not at gun shows.  The few I've heard about bring ridiculous prices.  When, oh when, will they be a common Ruger item?  The only one I've touched is at a private range where a fellow had one he had just bought for close to a grand.  He let me shoot it.  The 100 yard metal man was easy to hit with that gun.  I hope the Ruger shut down is short.

Should be long over by now, Mike, though that doesnt mean your dream gun will show up either  :P . Hope yours is worth the wait, my old 7 1/2" 1st model Redhawk sure was.
