praire limber
« on: September 24, 2012, 01:00:02 PM »
well bill called me today and said he has finished my praire limber to go with my carriage. i hope to have pics up soon, we are working on wether to go with a large single box or the two saddle boxes,  i dont like the two square boxes so i am not going that way.  i am on the hunt for a pic of a praire limber with a single box,  so i can have proof they were used, i have seen pics in the past but I am unable to find one now for some reason,  please help if you know where one is.   thanks,

About Limber Boxes - the number 1 Praire Limber has the 2 box system and the number 2 Praire Limber has the single long box system.  If you check the AOP drawings, only availbe for the number 2 praire limber, you will find the drawing for the single, long narrow box.  I built a number 1 Praire Limber to go with my Number 1 Carriage that my Pack Parrot is mounted on.  If you want to see some Number 1 boxes, go to www.millercannons
.net and you can see picture of his boxes.  The main difference between No 1 and No 2 Praire Limbers are the boxes used and their attachments.

the second model prairie limber has two thin boxes not just one. but i have seen an original box prairie limber with a single box that was made at tredager iron works.  its in a prominent collection in Pa.   but it is a narrow wheel based limber and i am looking more to a wider stance like the federal limbers.    but if i can not find any pics of a wide box then i will go with the twin thin boxes.

I am not sure I remember this correctly, but I think Don Lutz picked up a prairie carriage long box at a show.  He almost missed it as it was under a table.  This was several years ago.  I wonder if he still has it.

a large single box has been located that has never been documented, and we will be doing drawings and documentation of the box.  all i can tell you now is its an original federal 12 lb mountain howy box.  that has been hidden away in a collection for years.  I refuse to build something i can not prove was real.

Get lots of photos when you take your measurements it always helps with the documentation
