Anyone ever do anything this stupid? I visited my relatives last night. My brothers had asked me to bring my LC9 so they could look it over, along with the little plastic Versacarry holster. I unloaded it before going inside (babies in the home). Brothers checked it out, handed it back. I put it on top of their frig so I wouldn't have to go back out to the truck right then. Promptly forgot about it. Here it is the next day, and it's still on the frig. I notified him to secure it until I could take the 45 min. trip back to his place.
How dumb is that? I'm gonna have to carry something else for a while.
I did an even dumber thing 2 years ago. Went all the way to Florida to visit the one of the brothers. Left my LCP .380, loaded, in the bedroom. I was 6 months getting that mouse gun back.

Moved out of an apartment back in the mid 70's. Got to putting everything up at the new place and realized my shotgun was behind the bedroom door back at the old place. About 30 minutes or so later I had it back.

Many many years ago I left and forgot a rifle for about 6 months at the Range caretakers place because I was riding a motorcycle and it started to rain. That was in the days when I only had one firearm and there was no national registration which he could have used to contact me.

Done worse than that! I arrested a subject on warrants one morning about 03:00. I transported him to the detention facility, drove in as usual, locked my duty gun in a lock box, and put the key in my pocket. On my way out, I got an urgent call. I jumped in my car and took off to the call. I was left with only my backup on that violent domestic. Fortunately I didn't need it. I took a lot of ribbing over that one. It was close to end of shift before I could get back to pick up my gun. The chief never found out about that one! LOL.

ha! good stories! heres mine, was crossing a fence to go deer hunting near a small pond.put gun on ground under fence, along with my pack and a chair. picked up pack and chair and went to my stand. got there and realized i left my gun laying under the fence, jeez! walked back a 1/4 mi and got it.

I think I got you all beat! My first year of hunting was when I was 12, I got my dads old single shot 20 gauge and used it the entire season. The next season when I was 13 I had taken the ole 20 gauge up for hunting when he surprised me by giving me his Mossberg 510AT pump 12 gauge which I used that entire season..well apparently somehow I completely forgot about that old 20 gauge and took the 12 gauge home with me. A couple years later I begin to wonder where that old break action is.. I assume dad has it at his house. I question him and he says he doesnt think he has it but maybe its somewhere in his mess ( remodeling ). I bring it up here and there throughout the years. I basically had given up hope but menton it again earlier this year, he still had not seen it. He brings it up with my grandpa which is who we stay with when doing our hunting.. a few months after asking grandpa, grandma finds the gun, deep in a closet still in the same old ragged soft case.

This gun has been in the soft case....direct from the cold wet woods..un-oiled or cleaned since I was 13. Im 28 now!

I was told the gun has a tiny bit of surface rust that can be removed with steel wool. Grandpa is having his gunsmith pal refinish everything then next time I see him and my dad ( probably next year ) I will finally get my old gun back!

The gun itself has little monetary value but it was purchased by my grandpa for my dad as his first gun, given to me as my first gun and if I manage to reproduce, will be my childs first gun. In all honesty, I DONT want it refinished...I enjoy all the scratches in the stock from my dad wandering through the woods. If I have no little ones, it will go in the grave with me

A guy I worked with stored 2 AR 15's in his return duct. He had moved out of the house a couple weeks when he realized he had forgot to move them to.

Back when I hosted Digger Wars, about a 7 hour drive from where I live, I always took 15-18 long range rigs with lots of ammo for them along so nobody ever had to do without while barrels cooled. One year I forgot to pact the ammo for a couple of them, thousands of rounds. Worse because those two rigs kept staring at me the entire 10 days to remind me. They almost had tears in their eyes wanting to get in on the action, but fed on wildcats that nobody else their that year shot.

Another gent brought 12-15 rigs too that year, so we made out.

Probably 14 years ago I went to my first silhouette match and had a great time. Went home, ate dinner and went to get my gear out of the car only to discover NO GUN CASE!!!!!!!!!!! Got up next morning and drove an hour back to the range. When I got out of the car several guys started laughing and one said we were taking bets on what time you pulled in.

About 25 years ago, I left on a trip from Texas to Nawth K'Lina and that night in the motel room I realized that I hadn't brought one with me. The next day I made a call to a buddy while going through Atlanta and borrowed one.

I've also forgotten HAVING a gun.
In the good old days, when I had a job that required a lot of road time, I would stop at yard sales and flea markets and buy broken guns/parts and occasionally rebuild & sell a few. I would hit hardware stores and pawnshops and buy "junk" guns.
Fast forward to 2003 and building a retirement home and finally getting all those boxes unpacked from multiple Army moves and several rounds of long-term storage. I got busy sorting and storing all the repair parts and spares; in a footlocker from the 1984-86 timeframe, I found a Universal .30 cal M-1 carbine stored in cosmoline and kraft paper and still have no recollection of where/when I came up with it.

HI Guys:

I have a couple of dumb gun stories also. But here is one that happened about 10 years ago. I was hunting deep in the Montana Mountains. The Outfitter I was with was less than desireable. The guide would either walk or ride by horseback with you and drop you off at a spot and pick you up at night. You weren't supposed to roam to far from the original spot he left you at.

Well I was at the top of this small hill, we call them mountains in PA. On the way walking in we had a close call with a big Grizzly, almost had to shoot the sucker. Anyway it started to snow, light at first, a nice six point Bull Elk appeared with his harem about 250 yards away. I had a new beautiful Remington SS in .300 RUM. I took the shot and nailed the Elk, he went about 50 yards and piled up. In the mean time the past few hours the snow intensified greatly. Now there is about 5 inches of fresh powder on the ground. By the time I make my way down the mountain, into the field where the Elk lays it is a full blown Blizzard. As I find my Elk, admire the Rack, nature calls. I gotta go and I gotta go bad. I lay my rifle on my elk and head for the nearest tree line. When I am finished, the storm intensified even more, as I walk into the field I CAN"T find my ELK and I can't find my RIFLE, it is almost a whiteout. Hmmmm let me see, I got an Elk down, a mature Grizzly in the vicinity, I can't find my rifle in the field, and by the way I left my .44Mag sidearm back at camp.

The guide showed up at dark with other hunters in tow. We spread out across the field and eventually found my Elk and Rifle. Let's face it all I had with me was my hunting knife, I would of been dinner for that Griz if he showed up.

Maybe it would be a good topic but mention was made of borrowing a gun . Is it legal to borrow a gun ? Can you cross state lines ? Is that not a transfeer ? Long gun vs handgun different ?

I left my rifle in the woods this last season. Navigated away from my usual ground, up and over a hill, up another hill, found sign all over, and climbed the tree. No deer. At dark I came down. Unhook climber (Summit Viper) and strapped it on, picked up my gear, and started off by compass. I knew the rough bearing to get out, but had never been on that mountain. Got to the road and then the car 30 min later, when I realized... I'd left my rifle leaned against a tree, in an area I'd never been in. I was distressed,no knowing if I'd be able to find it. No use going back in the dark. Went home and studied photos I'd taken from the tree, to find some pattern to help me next day.

Came back next morning and hunted nearby with muzzleloader, then started hiking that hill. Zig-zagged the area for about two hours, was getting discouraged, when I found it, no harm but a little frost on it. Yippee. I'll try not to do that again.

i found out how well ruger stands behind their guns
when i left the blackhwk 357 on the roof of the truck
not just the fll to the pavement but those truck running over it didn't help

now when ever i unlock the safe i hang my car keys on the door
so i cant leave with out locking it

stay wth a friend then went on to visit my parrents
left my insulin in her fridge
luckily had a diabetic friend where my parents live....with plenty insulin
wow.....now we are admitting to shareing controlled substance online
i will wait for the drug police to raid me soon....got to control those drugs
shooting up even ...to make it worse

Most drug stores around here will help a diabetic in need if you ever run into trouble . Hope it is everywhere .

Took a hard case to the house in NC with a shotgun I was going to give to my 14 year old cousin and my Uncle asked if I would bring one of my pistols so he could talk his wife into getting one. Told Uncle he needed to bring a case for the cousins shotgun as I needed the hard case to fly back home with the pistol.
Well all said and done they were leaving before me and (Not sure if it was a conspericy or not) put the kids shotgun in the hard case with the pistol and stuck it in the mini van headed to Texas. The next Day I was getting ready to leave and asked where they hard case was and better where was my Sig. Dad Said in the van headed ot Texas........
The kid just got an acceptance letter to the Naval Academy and I still have not gotten my Sig back. Maybe this Christmas. $:-\$

We don't have much for roads so our hunting is done by boating across the bay and about 40 miles up a large river. In a rush to make the tide and get all the gear into my skiff, and having a new truck with tinted rear windows I never noticed I had left my rifle until I was 12 miles away. Luckily I had started early enough in the tide that I was able to get back to the harbor, grab the rifle and make it back upriver. Was about 1.5 hrs behind my hunting buddy. But the look on his face when I pulled my boat over to his to explain the issue...... that alone helps me double check the truck. Left my harvest tickets home once but my wife found them and sent them upriver with a neighbor who tracked me down - I hadn't gotten anything yet and had discovered my mistake. Helped my buddy pack out his caribou.

An air taxi pilot told of a large hunting party on a moose, caribou and brown bear hunt. They chartered his Grumman Goose to go to a very remote part of the Alaska Peninsula - really out of the way. Not on any normal mail route or village route. This is pre satellite phones etc etc. One hunter announced that he would watch over the ammo while they waited to fly out to camp. They had everything in one large metal ammo box. 10 days later the pilot drops in to retrieve the party and everybody is very very gloomy, no heads, no hides, no meat. The ammo watch guy had left the box pushed back under a chair in the air taxi office where the pilot never saw it. That charter and the whole hunt, prep, gear had to total close to $10,000 -$15,000 maybe lots more.
