One that I let get away...
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:40:01 AM »
...on purpose.
The email:
Dear Sir/Madam,

Can I interest you in this iron cannon?, It's 18th century and French, cast with bands of stylised lotus, the barrel inscribed Gavre au Ghapet, Master-General of Ordnance's cypher and it's 101cm long overall, looks like it has a later carriage. It's in beautiful condition and i can provide more pictures if you are interested. I'd be looking in the region of £5000 for it. I have included a picture.

You should pounce on this offer like a starving lion; why I wouldn't be surprised if just the capsquares and painting on the carriage alone are worth 5000 pounds.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

.
Next you'll be getting an email from a lawyer from China that he searched you out because a distant dead relitive with the same last name left an estate worth 30 million dollars........
.
On another forum there is a collecter overseas who has a put together U.S. musket with tacks all over it and brass work on the front end looks like it came out of Africa several have told him so but he inssists that it must be American Indian........ Just because they want it to be one thing when its something else don't make it so.......
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
