We have 2 rifle seasons this year (first time ever) so I hope to use my 357 max, 44 mag, 500 S&W, and maybe even my 12 guage. If there are any deer left I may break out the muzzleloader (non handi). Already tagged one with my bow and first gun season does not start until November 17th. Can't wait.
Cartridges for My Entertainment: .22 S,L,LR, .223 Rem, 7x57, 30-06, 8x57, 357 mag/max, 35 Remington/Indiana, 35 Whelen, 44 mag, 445 SM mag. Adding the 6.5x55 swede!

Intend on using my 30-30 if I can hang on to it long enough.   Seems all my buddies like it too!

I've already taken two does with my crossbow so I'm just waiting for gun season in a week or so, and then I'll be using my 45-70 Handi again.
I went to the range yesterday and hadn't shot it in a while and I needed to reload a few more cartridges and wanted to see if anything changed.
Nope!   She put the first three rounds of 400 grain Speer jacketed soft points into a 1 1/2" group shooting off my backpack at 100 yards in a pretty stiff wind.   In other words she still shoots better than I can shoot her!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Bring wutcha got!  In my case it is my .223, the only centerfire I currently have.  If I get something better by the Monday after Thanksgiving though, I will take it.  If it goes like previous years, high pressure public land hunting will give me wonderful views, good exercise, and full lungs of fresh air.  It is what it's all about anyway.  For me, bringing home deer is just an added bonus.  Always happy when I do, not dissapointed when I don't.

So far the only rifle I have that is sighted in is my Whelen.   :(   Unfortunately it's a Rem 700.   ::)   But I'm bringing my 25/06 and 50-140 Handys to the farm this w/e and if I can sight them in I'll use those!   ;D

I will be taking my .357 maxi with my Contender maxi as a sidekick. My boy will be taking his Handi .445 super mag with his .44 Super Blackhawk sidekick ;)

Be safe out there.

redleg11b I am with ya. If I get one good. If not then darn I will have to spend more days hanging out in the woods. ;)

Was heading down the .45 colt path again as I love it, but now that I got the kinks outta the 30-30 superlite, I'm getting the itch to go that way.  Would open up my beanfield opportunity more where I sit for opening day.  ;)

The area where I live in the boonies in MN is intensive harvest. Allowed 4 does and a buck.   Farthest shot from my stand in the woods is 60 yds..Be using the Handi 45-70 with cast. 345gr HP, 39gr of IMR 3031
Got a couple of spots with long field shots 500 yds and will use my Savage 110FP Tactical in 300 Win Mag and a Leatherwood M-1200 ART for eyes.
And if I get froggy I will set up with the Pedersoli John Bodine 45-70 and some 475gr flat nose .
In muzzle loader season will use my Pedersoli 50 cal Frontier Standard cap gun
My favorites for now
Pedersolis>> John Bodine 45-70 & 50 cal Frontier Srandard
 Pietta>> 2 1858 Remington 44's
 H&R SB2 Handi Rifle 45-70
 Savage 110FP Tactical 300WM W/ Leatherwood M-1200

I'll start with the pardner with slugs for hogs, and # 7 1/2 for squirrel  than switch over to the max or 308 when deer season kicks in.

Its a topic every year and every year its a rough/tough choice!!   ::)

I think the 356 first as its shooting so well, maybe the 45 colt again and then maybe even the 32-20 as I have a good AWESOME shooting loading...  ;D But them the 25-35 has still been unproven...

Handi in .444 marlin for primitive season.  May just hunt with it all season.

Ditto on this set-up.  Used it during primitive and my longest shot from my stand is 160 yds using a rangefinder.  I fiqure to keep using it for the whole season unless something strange happens.

Not a Handi, but I will be using my CVA Scout .44 mag, when not using my new Ruger American in .308 Win.

For close quarters my 357 mag with 180 grain Buffalo Bores... For longer shots, my 35 Remington with 200 grain Hornady LE's.

Was working up loads for both of my 30cal barrels to see which one was the better candidate.

The '06 is fair w/a Krag-imitator load and a Hornady 170RN.  But the 30-30 barrel dialed right in w/30.0 gr of 3031 behind a Speer Hot-Cor 150. Brian56 re-worked the trigger for me twice, but it needed some stoning (Perklo style) to get down to the mid/upper 3lb range.  The 30-30 150grs are running a little warmer than spec at 2200fps average, but they are right on the money.

My first year w/a Handi centerfire, hope its successful.

Good luck to all. Hunt safe.

22K hornet  45gr bullet over a nice dose of H110 does a great job on Texas whitetails.
