Author Topic: Super 14"-44mag Contender......BSA Red dot scope??????? (Read 1167 times)

went to a gun local gun shop yesterday, the owner ordered me a one-piece mounting rail for scope......showed me a BSA red dot scope for $ 52 with rings etc, said he would mount it on Sat. and i could shoot on his range out back on sat., it i did not like it he had BSA pistol scope he would mount and i could try this......1 --never had a BSA scope?

2. will they hold up to the 44 mag. 3.what about the red dot scope--this pistol will be used for deer and hogs at under 100 yds...( more like 50-75 yards)...Thanks for the help.

A few years ago I had put a TASCO Aim Point red dot on my 44 mag Hunter Barrel. The red dot had the adjustable brightness knob . I fired about 30 rounds. As I was turning off the brightness, I noticed the adjustment was "real loose". It's the only red dot I ever owned.No way to fix it without mailing it someplace. I hope they have made improvements since ! My son had a TASCO scope on a BB gun that was a POS. I would hope that the BSAs are better than the TASCO scope/sight .

I have had the same experience with an ADCO red-dot. Twenty rounds on my 10" .223 and the brightness knob went completely loose. It was not a cheap piece--$125. Now only have optical scopes and only T/C and Burris. I buy clean used ones and have been very pleased with the eight I own. Really soured on the dotted, but lots of you guys love them.

i've heard some bad reports on BSA, but i have a 4x16x40 on my 22match contender that serves well so far. may take a little luck!

For price, check the mail order places. I have had better luck with BSA than other cheap scopes. My old 2X BSA pistol scope moved off my 7-30 onto a friends 44 Ruger Blackhawk and is still woking fine. I like the speed of a red dot for hunting but the 4MOA dot is just a bit too big for target work.

No experience with the BSA red dot, but I put one of their scopes on my Encore 209X50. Lasted 5 shot and the crosshairs broke.

I have two red dot sight one is a BSA BZ30B different from the RD30 by using regular one inch rings and having a push button to adjust dot brightness. This one is on my 30-30 contender barrel and with it I easily shoot groups around 1 1/2 inches at fifty yards. I use the top edge of the dot for an aiming point. I don't really like the push button as I have to push it 8 times to go thru all the dot brightness settings to turn it off. The lowest setting is the most used. The other is a Millet SP1 I ordered from Midsouth. It has the drum style knob that can be turned both ways and a smaller dot. I have it mounted on my 12 gauge slug gun and I have no problem getting 2 inch groups at 50 yards using rifled slugs as it is a smooth bore. I shot it one time at 100 yards and got a 4 1/2 inch group with 3 shots. Sportsmans guide has a version with the drum style dot brightness adj, a BSA for $40 or so. The Millet goes for $80 from Midsouth. This sight and the BSA so far offer comparable performance with the edge (slight) going to the Millet.

I have had good luck so far with a bsa red dot on a 357 taurus after several hundred rounds. I just ordered two of their 2x pistol scopes from sportsmans guide because I had a sale coupon. One silver and one black for 83.00 shipped. With contenders I can see the top of the line scopes limiting my barrel purchases. Wal-mart in our area has their red dots priced low also.

Did you mean Pro-point for that Tasco red dot, I have 2 of them myself. One is on my Ruger slab-side 22 and the other is on my Ruger Redhawk in 44 MAG. Both are holding up after thousands of rounds. I have an Aim Point red-dot, but it is not made by Tasco. It is made by Aim-point and cost from $200.00 and up. Aim-point is what you see on a lot of military weapons. I think they are worth it.

i put one on my 14'" contender in 44 mag. mounted very solid, the dang thing moved farther on each shot. good luck !
