Tony's Gun Shop is closing.
« on: October 12, 2012, 04:06:36 PM »
I was just there today and talked to to them. The ATF pulled their license due to alleged "violations" in the past. There will be an auction of their remaining inventory on Nov. 9nth. And end of an era. :'(

:'( That is a shame! Tony's was a must stop on our trips up that way.... :'( ....The last gun I bought was at Tony's, looked all over without success, one the boys there smiled and picked it right off the rack " you mean this one?"...I'll take it!! We stopped there last November, nasty day outside, Tony felt like visiting. What a fascinating life he has led, some interesting tales he told, he will be missed. That will be quite an auction, the guns you see on display are only a portion of his inventory if you can believe Tony...and I do! They'll probably have to hold the auction at a larger venue, I hope there is a big crowd to support a successful sale. Might have to make a trip up there, dang it!!!

Has Tony not heard of a lawyer?  If these are allegations only, I'm sure a decent lawyer can stop these proceedings.  The ATF isn't all powerful.  I mean contact the NRA, I'm sure he's a member.  Shutting down outlying shops is part of Obamaism.....  I hate to see people just give up if they are in the right.  8(

I just found out about it today.  The young guys had a table at a gun show at the Legion Hall in Newberry.  The auction is Nov 9th at the Auction Block on US-2 in Manistique.  Here's the link to it.

It simply sucks.  I've dealt with Tony's for 22 years and I know he's always "letter of the Law".  They know they can't just take our guns away, so they just continue to nibble away at it making gun ownership more costly and difficult.  Keep that in mind next month and be heard.

I contacted my son who attends Lake Superior State in the Soo as soon as I read about it today, asked him to drive down to Tony's and pick up a little something as a momento. He went home with a used (like new) NEF .22-250 and a box of ammo, the first long gun he purchased on his own, a great gun to remember Tony's for sure, but I think he plans on keeping it... 8) ...Happy for him, feel bad about Tony's closing.

Sad news for sure.
Had planned to make a trip over there in September, but due to unexpected circumstances wasn't able to make it.  I'll sure miss the occasional road trip over there to browse thru the gun racks!

I was in again today. Bought a holster and talked a bit. There was twelve cars in the parking lot and guys were lined up at the counter, so I couldn't talk much. The auction is going to be on the 3rd right there at the shop. I'm glad because I really didn't want to drive 90 miles to Manistique, but this still is a sad time. There is no place else in the Eastern U.P. or the tip of the Mitt where you can walk in and have a large selection of guns to fondle. I've been going to Tony's ever since I moved up here 23 years ago and I always got a fair deal, even if Tony's dog did bite me one time when I got too close to the gap in the counter. I'm angry, too, that a government bureaucrat can destroy several peoples livelihood with the stroke of a pen. I'll be thinking about that in three weeks at the voting booth. >:(
