Spinner Targets
« on: January 27, 2004, 02:15:18 PM »
Last week I went to Walmart and bought one of those steal spinner targets. I live in the country so all I have to do is step out my back door to shoot. I just carry the target about 50 yds. out into the pasture with a hill for a backstop and start shooting. I shot one afternoon last week and again this afternoon, 50 rounds at a sitting. I don’t know why I waited so long to buy one of these. It's easily the best $17 I have spent in awhile.

Sounds like fun will have to check in to one. :)
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

It is fun and good practice away from a bench. I usually sit on my back steps and just prop on my knees to shoot. I will shoot a few offhand and may shoot some while standing and resting on the side of the handrail support post like you would a tree in the woods.
The target I bought is from Hoppe's but I have also seen some from Outers. The one I have looks like it will last for awhile. I have been shooting standard velocity lead bullets and the 50 rounds my cousin shot at it were lead bullet high velocity. It doesn’t leave much of a dent at all. Now I just have to order me several bricks of practice ammo.

A buddy has a set that is about perfect. Just a small circle about 1.5" on top and a larger one about 4" on the bottom, on the same shaft. That is, hitting either swings both. We have it out at about 80 yards for silhouette practice. Warm up on the big one and then try the small one. He's been throwing 50  rounds at it, two or three times a week, for a couple of years. One afternoon we got up much closer and poured about 600 rounds into it from a double action Smith 17. It shows no sign of wear. These are really useful pieces of gear!

Just picked up a spinner for my .22's and one for my 30-30--at Gander Mountain-- They are alot of fun---I'm a mile out of town--a good friend of mine  told me how he built a box around his spinners and put dirt and sod on top of that---a pretty nifty set up if your concerned about richochets and works great. :-)
I"M LOST--I've gone to look for myself--IF I should return--BEFORE I get Back-PLLLLLLLLEASE--Ask me to wait.
