Are you sure you not reading an old article?  Marlin did shut the doors in 2011 and restructured.

Remington is producing Marlin pattern firearms now.  I am unsure how Mr Soros caused that.  With the funds at his disposal if he wanted a maker to close wouldnt it be easier to just buy them and then close it ?   Maybe it is more fun just to force them out of business.  I'm sure this topic has a lot of discussion on MarlinOwners.com

Dunno if this was an old post or not, it didn't appear to be old and never mentioned that Remington bought up Marlin. It did mention something called Freedom Group. :-\

Marlin, H&R, Remington, Bushmaster, and DPMS are all owned by the same company, Cerberus Capital Management.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus_Capital_Management

One of the co-founders is a hunter and lives in Colorado and wanted to own the gun companies.  That is why Remington is now selling AR-15's (actually made from the DPMS with Remington markings on them).

That being said, since a lot of manufacturing capability has been combined, some guns may have a waiting period, and some you can get right away.  If you wanted say a Marlin 44mag, but the next three months they are geared to make 30-30's, you might have to wait until they make a run of 44mags.  They may not make H&R guns but one month a year.

I know this is an older post, but wanted to comment.
I saw the same email, it is a bogus, baseless, rumor, just to get feathers ruffled.
Yes, Marlin is owned by Remington.  Many of you may not like it.  But rest assured, they are not shutting any doors.  Guns sales are at record high levels, gun shops are having fun.  I think the future is bright for gun sales, until some new anti gun laws get in the way.

You can read more on the absorption by Remington on MarlinOwners.com  Some have reported that the ''Rem-Lins'' (identified by the ser# on the reciever) have not met their standards of fit and finish. If you are shopping for a ''Marlin'' I encourage you to read the reviews before purchasing.
For those interested in the pre-Remington Marlins you should know that while there are many around they tend to hold value and you'll pay more than in previous years. Look for the ''JM'' on the barrel.  As Remington becomes more adept at lever rifles this differentiation should dissolve but who knows how long that will take.

A few weeks ago I saw a whole rack of new Marlins.  I looked them over and fit and finish were fine.  Works were smooth.  I was not able to shoot them, but I was satisfied with things normally inspected when looking over a new rifle.  I would not be afraid to try one if I needed to.
