A high school student is allowed 10 to 12 ounces of meat a week? That's absurd, A high school hockey player will eat a 6 to 10 oz steak at a sitting, along with mashed potatoes, and a milk shake. I know I used to feed them at restaurants when they were on the road. They bulk up with muscle, but you just don't see fat hockey players. I can not say anything for students that play Football, Basketball, or go out for Track, I've had no experience there. But I seriously doubt they are much different than Hockey players.
Skyler had the option during high school to either eat at the school or go eat elsewhere. He usually went to Fast Food places. When he was going to the Catholic high School in Fairbanks, 7 thru 12 grade, Sam's Club was just down the street. Pizza, Italian Sausage Dogs, Chips, and 48oz Cokes or Sprite. That was lunch, then they were ready to eat again when school let out. I'm talking boys here that played Hockey, rode/raced BMX Bikes, Snowmachines, Motorcycles, or 4-wheelers. Their caloric intake was astronomical, but they burned it up as fast as they took it in. Veggies were an after thought, they were eaten only when eating at restaurants or at home where Mom had them under her thumb. The boys felt, Why waste the room in their stomachs with veggies. They needed the protein and the carbs.
I remember we stopped at Chili's one day, on our way to a Hockey game. We had six boys with us. I ordered two trays of Spinach and Artichoke dip with chips. I made the mistake of going to the bathroom, I missed the total consumption of both trays. The wife looked at me when I returned and said, "With these guys you snooze you lose". Then came the steaks.
