I find myself drooling over Sig Sauer's 1911 Ultra
« on: August 14, 2012, 07:11:50 PM »
I am wanting a compact .45 1911 style (for the grip safety, slim profile, and aftermarket support) for concealed carry.  The full sized is too big for my frame to hide well enough.  I am 5' 9" and 155#.  After reading about the Sig I am wondering what 1911 fans have to say about it.  Good and Bad, or just bad if it is just a mocked up Sig and not functionally a 1911.

No experience with the Sig Ultra, but lots of favorable experience with the Kimber Ultra Carry. The Ultra shoots like a big gun and as reliable as any I've seen. I'd wager anything made by Sig would perform in a similar manner.

I just bought a Kimber Crimson UltraCarry II for easier concealment.  Put it in a Galco holster and it has been great.  The regular sights are just black sights, but with the Crimson Trace grips it works real well.  Price was 999.00  I'm sure you could do a little better.

The Ultra Carry without the crimson trace, but doing a sight swap is what I was thinking, Long.  My Father-in-law has a Kimber Carry (next longer barrel model from about 8 years ago)  He doesn't shoot it much, and prefers ball ammo so I don't know how dependable they are.  Based on reputation though, either Kimber, or Sig should make a great carry gun.

i purchased a kimber stainless 2 from a buddy who had it for a year or two and was going to the shorter model for better concealment.we both like them.ive heard yu have to run 500 rounds thru a kimber to git it reliable. ive not seen it.it functions just as fine with rem ball ammo or my cast loads.and ive reloaded for years but am not a expert by any means.it will eat anything i can stuff in it.

With good magazines, good ammo,  properly cleaned and lubricated, any quality 1911 should run right out of the box. Such has been my experience with 1911s, especially Kimbers. Mine are fed my 200gr LSWC ammo mostly. But I've run a few thousand rounds of factory ball through them as well, including Wolf. I don't think you'll have any problems with the Sig either. Pick the one you like and go with it.

I've got a Kimber CDP Pro II and have never had an issue of any kind with it.  That is why I went with the Ultra also.

I just got in the shop a NIB Sig 1911UC duo tone alloy 3 in .45ACP, with fixed night sights. Fantastic looking handgun.
