Lawsuits are one thing, but maintenance costs can also add up. Running a UNIX web server like that costs money for the hardware to run it on, it may or may not cost anything for the license depending on what OS it uses. Plus, there is substantial overhead in paying people to maintain that kind of server and keeping the data on it backed up. Plus, increased internet traffic to their site meant that Marlin needed to buy more bandwidth from their ISP. It was an added cost that was also a potential liability. When you consider that, getting rid of it was a no brainer for Marlin.
