Ruger Speed Six
« on: October 05, 2012, 04:29:21 AM »
I know the Speed Six sights are regulated for 158 grain rounds.  Does anyone have any experience with POI with something like the Double Tap 180 grain loads - do they shoot high or low?  Thanks for any info.

I have a service six that is a square butt version of the speed six.  The only ammo I have fired in it is 125 gr cast at around 980 FPS and it shoots to point of aim at 15 yards and a bit low at 25 yards.  I have also shot 158 gr cast bullets at about 850 fps and they shoot to POA at 15 yards as well and a bit high af poa at 25 yards.  I do not buy factory ammo so have no idea about it.

Thanks for the info.  357 mag is one of the calibers I do not reload.  Double Tap's measured velocity from a 4" GP100 for their 180 grain hardcast is 1200 fps.  I would guess that they will shoot high.  Your experience with the higher bullet weight makes think that I may be correct. Hopefully the gun will tell me soon (have some on order).  Thanks again.
