Leupold M8-2 1/2 power is about 8" in length. It's one of the shortest ones I'm aware of.

I bought two of these bantum tasco scopes from the catlog that described them with a duplex reticle , but they arrived with pro shots.

I just put one on my new CVA .44 mag...yes, it came through with a pro-shot recticle. I had a Simmons of about the very same size & shape on my 30/30 for years..then gave the whole setup to my grandson..the Simmons was excellent with a duplex..but you may have to find one in older stock...since I believe Simmons dropped that number.
BSA makes avery similar one...but I have no experience with it, so cannot comment.

Since the guys with H&R rifles use short scopes a lot (for hammer clearance).. Try going to the "H&R Centerfire" forum...and ask Tim, Garbhead, Spanky or some of the other guys there ...bet they could help a lot on short scopes.
