FoxNews.com    Two U.S. Navy vessels collided off the eastern coast Saturday.
The USS Montpelier and USS San Jacinto collided at approximately 3:30 p.m. E.T., as both were conducting routine training, Fox News confirms.
There were no injuries on either vessel as a result of the collision.
Damage to both ships is being evaluated, with both ships currently operating under their own power.
The propulsion plant of the submarine was unaffected by the collision.

I do not see how this happens but all my knowledge about driving big ship and subs pales when compared to my knowledge of the mating habits of pterodactyls, of which I know nothing.

No matter how hard you try you cant nullify physics. Especially with gross tonage and bad decisions.

I wonder how this happened, and what kind of maneuver they were trying to perform. Those nuclear subs and ships that work with them are loaded to the gills with all kinds of detection systems that are supposed to prevent contact with enemies.
 
I've read of similar but different situations, like a long range bomber blowing up in a collision with the plane that was refuelling it. Or fighter planes that collided during a close maneuver drill. And then there are all the jeeps and trucks and forklifts that collided because the good ol boys were goofing off to much.
