An image shot by a safari guide shows the powerful bird snatching up a juvenile Nile crocodile from the banks of a river in Tanzania.
The fully grown Nile crocodile is one of the most dangerous predators in Africa. Its diet is varied, and includes fish, zebras, cattle, sheep, young  hippopotami, birds, other crocodiles and humans, but until it grows to adulthood, the young crocodile is also prey.
The takedown happened inside the Selous Game Reserve, and was photographed by Mark Sheridan-Johnson, the Telegraph newspaper reported.

Sheridan-Johnson told the paper that he took the photo on his day off.
“I didn’t have any clients to take out that day so I was driving in my Land Cruiser looking for interesting wildlife to photograph,” he said, adding that he’d never before seen a bird take a crocodile in his nine-year career as a guide.
Another image taken by Sheridan-Johnson shows that the unlucky crocodile had itself been hunting just before it was snatched. The reptile had a fish in its mouth even as the eagle was swooping down upon it.
It was not clear when the images were taken.

I've seen Eagles snatch fish out of the river, and baby Dall Sheep.  I've also seen them snatch young Coyotes, drop them on rocks below to kill them.

Saying that eagle has a six foot wing span, I'd guess the Croc is two and a half to three feet long.  A formadiable foe to small wildlife and birds.

I can't remember whether I mentioned it here, but this summer I saw a bald eagle snatch an osprey that had snatched a fish that was too big for it to lift out of the water.  The osprey was either unable to let go of the fish, or just didn't want to.  I'm pretty sure the eagle only meant to relieve the osprey of its catch, but since it didn't when the eagle made its intial swoop, the eagle decided to grab the osprey--fish and all.  When the eagle flew over me with its catch, I though I could here it chuckling.

Showed this to a biologist friend.  He said he has seen similer things out of eagles.  He relatred a story of how he one day watched an Eagle hit a Rocky Mtn Goat broadside and knock it off a cliff to the rocks below.  Then the Eagle flew down and had a fiest.  the location of the Goat prevented Wolves and Coyotes from reaching the Goat, and the Eagle only had to share it with other birds.

I saw a Red Hawk hit a Sparrow hawk that had just taken a sparrow.  Then all three went their seperate ways.  Luck day for the two smaller birds.
