forend question?

Can shotgun forends be interchanged with rifle barrel forends?  I know there are some special forends (muzzle loader, 10-gauge, etc), but in general can say a .270 rifle forend be used with a shotgun barrel and vica-versa?

other than the specialty forearms like the 10 guage heavy barrel and the Muzzleloading barrels, they interchange.
