How to store a cam bow
« on: November 19, 2012, 09:52:19 AM »
I won't be using my Mathews Outback for about 6 - 8 months. I have had the bow for about 6 years and have never let off the limbs except when I change string/cable. Should I back off the limb bolts, unstring it or just leave as is?

i've never backed off any of my
compound bows. of course, i don't
leave my recurves strung.

as far as i know, no archery store i've
ever been to backs their bows off.

i must add i don't have any one-cam bows,
so the s.o.p. may be different for those.
i know my buddy and his sons use matthews
bows and they have to go for frequent tune-up
and buss and string replacements.

i think any compound is best stored in a
hung-up arrangement similar to what archery
stores use, and needless to say kept out
of the heat.

I have a Hoyt X-TEC that is about 8 years old. I've never backed it off during the off season. Replaced string and cables (which are actually string) about 3 years ago. Never had an issue. Never had an issue with the 3 other bows I have owned over the years either. They are made to have stress on them.
