Police say man was under the influence while driving with son on lap       by Bryan Baker  WHAS11.com Posted on October 17, 2012 at 11:16 PM
Updated today at 2:24 PM       (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police watched James Nick Garrard drive erratically from a McDonald's in West Louisville down Broadway for about a half of a mile Monday. When they pulled him over police say they found drug track marks and a belt around his arm. They found Nick's 3-year-old son, Cash, asleep in his lap.

Cash's mother was also in the car, but was not arrested.

Richard Garrard, Nick's father, has lost track of Cash's mother and Nick since he kicked them out of his house in 2011.

"The needles, I found one in the couch, found one on my floor in my bedroom, I found countless saucers that was here and there and yonder, my spoons were being bent, I found straws everywhere," Richard Garrard said.

Police noticed similar evidence in Garrard's truck on the night of the arrest -- several baggies of powder and a straw caked with residue. While searching the car a drug-sniffing police dog named Willie ate some of the drugs. The dog was taken to an animal shelter but has recovered. On the arrest slip -- Nick told police he took four of the painkillers called percocet in the 12 hours before his arrest.

"My grandson that they had eight months ago, addicted when he was born, just come off the drip, they've been dripping him with morphine and everything just to bring him off drugs," Richard Garrard said. "He has to [stop doing it], he has to do it here, he can be locked up for 30 years, but if he don't change this, that habit is waiting on him."

Garrard faces six charges, including DUI, assault on a police dog, drug possession, and endangering a minor.

He needs a shot in the brain; a 9mm should do the job.  On the other hand, if he does enough drugs and becomes a beer drunk along with it, he could run for president someday.  Just like Obama.

Question for the pro legalize drugs crowd.
What about prescription drugs??  Should you need a prescription to buy them, or just tell the druggist what you want and get it?? A guy in Lou was arrested for getting scrips from 28 different dentists, should he have has to go to all that trouble to deal and sell?? POWDERMAN.  :o :o

More proof that the war on drugs is working. ::)

I just had a Negra Modelo... no Rx.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Folks---the gun needs a finger to fire.
The drugs are not the problem---it is the folks. Now--how in the world are you going to fix folks that don't want to be fixed--won't be fixed--and can not be fixed---find a pill for this attitude and I want to be your best friend in the world and help you spend all the money you are going to make.
Folks, we have been trying to fix folks, without much success for as long as Adam and Eve. Personally I am tired of answering these questions.
If you don't get it by now there is no help for you either.
Folks do what they want to do---folks die and they take innocents with them and God is watching. Why are you bring up this instance--you act as though this is earth shattering news. Folks are stupid and folks who think they are going to change humanity are a liitle more stupid than the folks they report these things on.
Now--in a way--I understand that most probably the post was made for one of several reasons. The shock value, the attempt to create a view of them being intelligent or careing, post count--and a lot of other mindless reasons.
It certainly creates nothing but useless gossip---hummm, never realized I didn't know how to spell gossip, if this is correct it is by accident---and a plethoria of folks sounding amazed as if they had never heard of such a thing.
Folks, I learned at the age of 7 that there is no accounting for stupidity. There were two brothers in town playing in their back yard. There was an ax in a stump and one of the brothers laid his hand on the stump and dared his brother to cut off his fingers. Folks, stupid is easy to understand, most difficult to correct.
Blessings
TEXAS, by GOD

Matthew 16:26 is a good scripture to read.

Key words right here.

Why is it that some folks who clearly grasp the concept that gun control doesn't work think that drug control will work someday if we keep throwing more money at it? Do people really have faith in the government's ability to save us from ourselves?

You have got to address the mind set in this before you can ever expect to administer any cure.
To those of you who think that I am not for reform your wrong,  in fact like you I feel the present
situation just is not working .  On the treatment or the medical end of this the way this all is being handled is only serving to fill our institutions with more and more casualties.

In this war the enemy is very clever , and stays out of sight useing others to take the heat and to
spread its poison to as many as it can . People they do not listen to us about this, it is a bureaucracy
filled with many other departments who do not get along with each other .
It's the same way we seem to fight any of our wars anymore, and its why they drag on like they do .

How many times do you actually hear from the medical side of any war ? Not to often or it's all sugar coated for you to see. I say show us the real casualties up front and personal so much so it will make
you puke.Don't have some talking head telling you about something , show the ones who are dead or dieing,or mentally and physically deformed as a result of the war! Ok let me show you the hideous
looking and debilitating images brought on by the muscular atrophy that occurs overnight from useing
a bad batch of street meth.Much to the horror of the user when they wake up looking like a deflated
corpse that can no longer move on its own. Or many of thier extremities paralyzed for life !

Or the vegetable that is left after a meth induced stroke takes them out . That is what real intervention is,like showing dead and mangled body's to drunk drivers its a start anyway. The real consequences of your actions in real time, not just lip service . Anna

Any word on Willie the police dog? Does he wear sunglasses all the time and eat a lot more than he used to?

Also, does the perp get charged with assaulting a police dog just because the dog broke training and ate some drugs?

Does this mean that if I consent to a search of my car and a drug dog happens to be there, and eats something toxic like the gopher poison I'm planning on buying at the hardware store, that I can go to prison for that?

After seeing the ravages of cancer on the body, I am in favor of medical marijuana. To me it is no different than any of the opiate pain killers you can get from a doctor Rx.

I say legalize it all, who ever wants it can have it. The dead can be buried with the money saved on the war on drugs.

People still drive under the influence of alcohol there is no difference in being high or drunk.

Drugs and alcohol are a life choice. You can't stop someone from putting anything they want into their body.

I choose  neither, I don't need them or want them.
