Finally got approved... Six months ago I decided that I was going hunting this winter. I called BATFE and asked them to send me the necessary paperwork to get the ball rolling on buying some components. I already had the maximum five cases for my NEF .308. All I needed was my bullet permit, my powder permit and my primer permit. The cost of the permits only went up 15% this past year so I feel lucky in that regard. It took a while to get it all done but the prospect of some fresh venison is looking pretty good now. The five primers came last week and after agents checked them and observed the priming operation on the five rounds and insuring that I had locked them in the safe, they left. They'll come back next week when the five individually wrapped powder charges come in and open the safe for me so I can store them until the five bullets arrive on the day before the hunt. The bullets are coded to match the cases this year so it will eliminate a lot of hassles in tracking serial numbers. I'll load the rounds on the night before the hunt and will pick up my rifle from the Sheriff's office the next morning. Thank goodness for the new satellite tracking they implemented this year which will eliminate having a BATFE agent traipsing along with me monitoring my movements while I am in possession of my rifle and ammunition. I can hardly wait to carry on the tradition of hunting.
