1951 Winchester .30-30

I just brought it home today and could not be happier. I tried a few loads and was not impressed with the accuracy, 2 1/2" was the best at 50 yards. Then I loaded up 3 Winchester brass with 33g of IMR4064 and a Sierra 170g bullet. All three bullet touched at 50 yards. This is a blast to shoot and a treat to carry.

You sound like a convert to me. Now, how long 'till you get your second lever, then a third....

John Y, I am just getting back to more hunting and less long range sniping. I traded a Winchester model 70 in .22-250 for the model 94 and a new Marlin 795. I have had more fun with the Marlin already than I had with the .22-250, and the model 94 makes me smile every time I pick it up. I still have a sportered Mauser that could be traded on a nice lever gun, who knows?

Just took a look at your location.
It's been a long time since I passed through that area. Have the trees grown?
All I remember is grain fields. The hunting would be nothing like I have here. My longest shot was 300 yards, but mostly, you can't see 100 yards, some places you can't see 50 feet for bush.

Most of my hunting is done in close. My longest shot was 345 yards, and that was the most disappointing season I have ever had. It was a nice buck, but it was the first morning of the season and that finished my hunting. I hunt a lot of big bush or river bends, and the average shot is well under 100 yards. Still hunting is my preferred style, so a quick handling rifle is far more important than a tack driver.

If the rifle is tight, and you play with it a bit, you may be able to get 2" groups, or a bit smaller.
