almost time
« on: October 27, 2012, 07:13:48 AM »
A few more weeks until firearms season here in VA.  I'm taking my Blackhawk in .45 Colt shooting 300 grain hardcast flat nose bullets under lots of 2400.  Mine is the 4.75 inch version and has taken deer o'plenty.  Some areas (not here) will offer the hunter long shots, so my set up may not be yours.  My shots are always within 40 yards.  What are you fellows using this season?

As in the past few years, I will alternate  .357 mags, . 44 mags and  the .460 mag in both revolvers and the carbines depending on where I'm hunting and how I'm hunting. They all have worked in the past and I have confidence they will continue to do so. Good luck and safe hunting.

Mike I use the about the same set up here in Northern VA. 6 3/4" Bisley model, 300 gr. Lee bullet with H110. It definitely puts them down.

I will either use my Ruger Blackhawk in 44 Mag with 240 gr. hard cast bullets, or my Super Redhawk 454 with some nice 45 Colt's topped  with 325 gr. WFN hard cast bullets.

I've been using my 10" 357 Herrett Contender with a 2x Leupold the last few years (haven't killed anything).  I will probably continue that tradition this year.  (Read that however you want, lol)

Will be using the 7-30 10" Contender.  Never shot a deer with it, but if I see one I'm pretty sure the gun will do the job.  120gn Nosler BT at about 2200.
