Green Mountain Rifle barrel LRH.

I have the TC Hawken in .50 and my barrel is screwed up. I have to get a new one. I have researched this quite a bit, on another forum, and the Green Mountain barrel has come highly recommended . I like the round balls, though, so I will be getting the 1:70 twist.

Green Mountain barrels have a good reputation and if you are happy with your rifle but have accuracy problems I think you will be making a good choice. I have them on 4 of my rifles and they all perform well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a rifle with a Green Mountain barrel. Apparently the rimfire shooters are discovering them too as replacements on the 10/22.

John, I have three rifles with GM barrels.  They are probably one of the best out there.  I have two on T/C Hawkens (.40 cal and .50 cal), and one on a Cabin Creek Yorktown (50 cal).  They are all extremely accurate, and the pricing is great.  My .40 is the equal of the T/C Cleland.  Both of the .50's are accurate as well.  All have twists for round ball.  Just one man's opinion.

What do you mean by long range? Are you wanting to shoot round ball or grease grooved/paper patch bullet?

dbm- The Long Range is a type of Green Mountain barrel designed for maxiballs or sabots. The Long Range is a drop-in barrel with a 1:28 twist.

Thanks for clearing that. I shoot long range muzzle loading with a .451 match rifle. In the UK we can get out to 1200yds at times, although normal maximum is 1000yds.

None, other than it needs to be registered on your firearm certificate as with any other firearm you own.

There appears at times from the US the impression that here in the UK we have lost all our firearms. Only handguns and semi-auto centre-fire rifles are banned. Many former handgun shooters now shoot lever action rifles (often in their old pistol calibres).

Anyway, I use my muzzle loaders for taget shooting not hunting. I enjoy anything from 50m offhand shooting with my schutzen style rifle to long range 1000yd shooting with my match rifle. The MLAGB here also holds matches for military rifle (typically Enfields) out to 600yds.

       glad to hear you can still have full-auto center fire. I guess we have been mis-informed.

Floomrider, I don't cast any lead myself.  I've never had the time nor inclination to do this.  I use Hornady .40 cal (.395) balls, and I do some experimenting with patch and lube materials.  I've tried some commercially-cast .395's, but I've found that I personally like the swaged Hornady's better.

This is just my opinion.  I know of others who cast their own (mostly .50's), and they are extremely happy with their decisions.
