My friend has one in maple.  It is a really nice piece of work.  I wish they weren't so expensive.

Give them a few years and then you will find one at a pawn shop so you can restore it for cheap  ;D Good things comes to those that wait. Regards

Yes indeed they are a very nice. A fine work of craftsmanship. This was one of my "new side-lock" choices but price got the better of me and I went with the GPR  :)

I wish they weren't so expensive, too, but when you think about what you get for that money, and other guns you could buy with the same capital outlay, the price seems pretty fair.

I mentined my desire to own one on another thread a while back.  I still have that desire and and still saving toward the goal of getting a maple stocked version in .54.

I expect I'll be placing my order sometime next month.

pastorp is right- Wait a little and you can pick one up for a song.
One of my side businesses is buying, on the cheap, fixing up and reselling
Side Lock BP guns. Wouldn't believe some of the deals I have found, especially
in bigger cities. Down here, where I am at now, it is much harder to get the deals
cause country folks know what a good gun of any kind is really worth.

Swampman , keep checking Gunbroker they sold a new in the box one for less than 700 bucks that is a steal.  I have one in walnut and it is one of the most accurate muzzleloaders I have ever fired,--- period. It will put them in the just about the same hole at 50 yards with 90-110 grains KIK FFG and a 018 pillow ticking patch using either spit or moose milk for patch lube.  It seems to shoot better every time I take it out. the only thing that seems to limit its accuracy is my eyesight.
Right now Dixie has one in maple for 925 and they have had them there cheaper. So keep an eye out there too.
Mine is walnut and the lock, butt plate,trigger guard, end cap are all case colored. The browning and wood to metal fit is very good.  I think you can get a walnut one for about775 new a Flintlocks.ltd.   Heck I have a custom Hawken that the unassembled parts were almost that much.  These are good rifles

P.s Make sure its a Rocky Mountain Hawken with slow twist for roundball shooting.  Pedersoli does make a Missouri River Hawken in fast twist.

That is a steal for a Rocky Mountain Hawken in maple.  Not bashing Lymans Great Plains Rifles but for about 200 bucks more to be able to have one of those is a bargain. Mine in walnut is a real shooter.

Swampman, why not build your own? You can buy everything you need from Track of the wolf , and several other builder supply stores.You can build a heck of alot better gun for less money than you pay for a mass produced gun. get yourself a 1 in 72 twist barrel and you would be set up perfectly for a prb rifle. just my thoughts.

The Hawken is the hardest muzzleloading gun there is to build.  I've built about 15 rifles and I know I couldn't build one I'd be happy with.
