What is causing the glaciers to melt at an alarming rate causing the oceans to rise ?

HEAT
Yepper. Call it what you want. The earth is getting warmer. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

...and if carbon is so bad then why is it that carbon is the back bone of pretty much every organic molecule?

Sent from my VM670 using Tapatalk
Carbon is also the back bone of many organic poisons. It all depends what the carbon is bonded to. Sit in a room filled with CO[ carbon monoxide] and see how long you last. CO2 is also poisonous to most animals.Cynide is another carbon based poison. Then there is C14- a radioactive isotope of C12.

From what i understand the Northen Glaciers are melting but the southern glaciers are expanding at the same or greater rate and the ocean is not rising.  On the other hand at my parents house in Eastern NC there are sharks teeth as it was a covered with ocean a couple million years ago.  Who is to say if that is not the normal state and the glaciers are abormal in global history?
I still find it funny that you think we have a say in what happen in the world.

But that is the problem with the Global warming / Climate Change model.  It does not take into account the Sun and it's cycles.  It would be like you don't turn off the boiler from the winter and scream that it is hotter.  The heat source matters!
The problem with the model is that no matter the input the answer is Man made Global Warming and CO2.
How come oil is bad but natural gas is good?  When you burn both your main products of combustion are water vapor and CO2.  Why is one Co2 better than another if all Co2 is bad?  When you burn Alcohol you get Co2 and water vapor?

With very few recent exceptions, the Earth has killed off virtually every species of plant or animal that has ever existed. In short, the only viable long term solution for the continuance of the human race is to get off this rock.

Look at the shape of the gulf of mexico - if we're still sitting around when another of those hits - game over.

If the Marxists now running this country can convince everyone that man is causing global warming. Then its much easier for them to make laws to put limits on how we live and what we can't do. It doesn't matter if the earth is warming or cooling, the leftists, will claim its mans fault. Heck they might even make laws to allow the killing off of people. Wait they already have that in place, with abortion and now health care run by Marxists.
The leftists don't actually think, sort of a Borg like absorbtion of anything the central brain puts out.

One vote for Battle Star Galactica and everyone leaving.
And thousands of species continue to die off.  But at some point others take their place.  The Wolf is almost all gone but the Coyote is getting bigger to fill the Wolfs void.  As the Tiger dies out other animals will fill the void.

Oxygen can be toxic depending on what it is bonded to as well. Should we declare it a greenhouse gas as well?

Science class got pretty exciting in junior high, Some of you should have stuck around!

A greenhouse gas is a gas in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. The primary greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere are water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone

Although contributing to many other physical and chemical reactions, the major atmospheric constituents, nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), and argon (Ar), are not greenhouse gases. This is because molecules containing two atoms of the same element such as N2 and O2 and monatomic molecules such as Argon (Ar) have no net change in their dipole moment when they vibrate and hence are almost totally unaffected by infrared light. Although molecules containing two atoms of different elements such as carbon monoxide (CO) or hydrogen chloride (HCl) absorb IR, these molecules are short-lived in the atmosphere owing to their reactivity and solubility. Because they do not contribute significantly to the greenhouse effect, they are usually omitted when discussing greenhouse gases

I appreciate that Biochem lesson. Very clear and concise.

I see the CO2 layer getting thicker, which causes the Earth to be more like Venus.

Venus' atmosphere won't allow much heat to dissipate overnight, so I expect a similar result
for Earth. And without overnight condensation from cooling winds across the Great Plains,
I expect the grasslands to become parched, no place for agriculture or mammals.

Grasslands will likely fail from Texas to Fargo. So do I sell out and buy property near Calgary,
and try some Ranching up in CA?  Cabelas is in a buying mood. So is Ted Turner, LDS Church,
and others.

Venus' atmosphere won't allow much heat to dissipate overnight, so I expect a similar result

Oh by the way...when I was in middle school they actually taught science in science class. They hadnt started global warming indoctrination yet.

Lakota, Isn't that the truth.
People get these man made global warming notions from the liberal media, and our government run schools. Which is indoctrinating people into their way of thinking, so its much easier to create a centralized state, where government is the all powerful.
In the vastness of the universe we are like specks of dust. So do you really think we are changing anything? We have a sun that is 93 million miles away that provides us with warmth. Do you think that the temperatures we get might have something to do with what the sun is doing? Some of you need to put your high school science books down that were issued by centralized planners, and stop listening to the centralized planners on tv and the internet, and use some common sense.
If we can be convinced that we are causing the earth to heat up, cause fires, floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Wouldn't it be easier for us to be told to stop burning oil, gas, coal, and wood? Wouldn't it be easier for us to be told that we need to use fluorescent light bulbs? Wouldn't it be easier for the centralized planners to control everything we do? Its time to awake from the media, and government induced slumber that many have been put in before its to late. False teachers are indoctrinating you on how and what to think to fit their agenda.
Right now the central planners are winning, they have a lot of people duped.

To all you who believe in manmade global warming, I've asked and still ask the question, "what should we do about it"?

If this is true, how do we fix it other than sending money to Al Gore?

If this is about to wipe out mankind, what do you propose?

Answer please.

All good questions, and in the spirit of gentlemen conversing.
To all you who believe in manmade global warming, I've asked and still ask the question, "what should we do about it"?
I'm trying to figure that one out. I am a steward of a 120 year land trust.
Part of me thinks we should stop doing whatever we are doing as soon as possible.
I don't have the answers I need to make this big decision.

If this is true, how do we fix it other than sending money to Al Gore?
I have no use for Gore, but others might. I will respect our Former Vice President.

If this is about to wipe out mankind, what do you propose?
I think it will rearrange agriculture, and redistribute population centers. And this might happen in a less-than-orderly manner. Capitalism may take a toll via wealth redistribution. I don't believe in the Doomsday scenario, and I refuse to live in fear.

I propose that we get organized on a global scale and take a look at the problem. If politics and nationalism can keep out of this examination of a global problem, then perhaps we can become "one world" and address it together.

I despise the political rhetoric and vitriolic attitudes of denial.  What does that contribute? Nothing useful to a meeting of minds with common cause to identify if any problem exists, and to address it as needed.

I have no use for Gore, but others might. I will respect our Former Vice President.  Actually you should look at what he says and what he does.  If it were a huge threat then Al Gore would be practicing what he preaches .  He has multiple houses that are huge and use many thousands of KW when he is not home.

OK you give up your house and move to Kenya or Cuba and lead by example.
Capitalism is the answer.  Look at the Ducks Unlimited and at Dolphin Safe tuna as examples of Capitalism doing right to protect the enviroment.  In Dolp[hin safe tuna, the companies canning it refused to buy tuna caught in nets and only on long lines or rods and reels.  No government no international what ever.  The consumers demanded it and those companies answered.
With DU a bunch of Duck hunters took their money and bought farms in Canada to stop the farmers from draining the wetlands and growing crops.  They took their money and purchased land so the Ducks had a place to nest.
Communism and dictatorships will never be a friend to the planet.  Look at the ecological mess that the Sovietr Union left and that the DPRC is creating.  In a communiost country if the land was to be drained it was to be drained and farm land would be what is there.  No if ands or butts and anyone who complained would either end up as part of the land fill or would spend some time in a reeducation camp learning not to question.
Instead of Dolphin safe tuna you may have Dolphin on the menue as what comes out of the nets is used.  No matter what.

I propose that we get organized on a global scale and take a look at the problem. If politics and nationalism can keep out of this examination of a global problem, then perhaps we can become "one world" and address it together.
OK get teh rest of the World to adopt our constitution and free a few billion people from Communism or other forms of dictators.

I despise the political rhetoric and vitriolic attitudes of denial.  What does that contribute? Nothing useful to a meeting of minds with common cause to identify if any problem exists, and to address it as needed.
Before you agree with the earth is warming brain wash crowd.  Read the e-mails that were written by the people that started it, the ones they sent to each other where they talk about how they can gin up research grants for their university in researching global warming.  Clearly their a consensius is not scientific fact.
Think about this.  We have 100 people in a room.  3 are millionaires.  Some one shouts. "raise your hand if you think these greedy Bastages should share all of their mnoney with every one in the room?"  And the vote is 75 to 25 in favor of the room stealing all the money from the millionaires and redistributing around the room.  May be a consensus but it does not make it right or real.

Well Tom, appreciate the response.  I believe we are going through climate change, but I don't believe man's part of it is of much import, at least not as much as some do.  Yes, I believe we can foul our own nest, but I also believe the earth was designed by a God who put in place systems that correct themselves, and our blunders as well.  I think climate change is inevitable, whatever we may or may not do.  If we hook a smokestack to every home and business and burn coal as our industrial grandfather's did, we will poison the air we breathe to our own detriment, but the earth will correct our mistakes.

There is evidence of rivers and lakes in the Sahara, and there are fossilized sea shells on the tops of the Appalachian mountains, so change will come.  Like you, I believe we will do as our forbearers and migrate or change our way of living as required.  Whenever great change comes suddenly, some will perish, others will thrive.

It is the man made part of the equation that I don't buy.  We are not nearly as powerful as we sometimes deem ourselves to be.

And.....it is the one world stuff that scares me....as I believe this is the plan of the global warming "crisis" all along.

I'm glad that we got through all of that and remained Gentlemen!

I won't throw my own political opinions out there, some of you may have
painted me to be very liberal, when in fact I am a Moderate Republican.
This year I have contributed to both the RNC and DNC, funding my
choices for best candidate for office.

I have started, bought, and sold businesses successfully, and now it is my time to steward
my family business into another generation, while I relearn it from the back of an ATV.

Property taxes threaten to put us out of business, and I'm no fan of tax-and-spend
policy in Washington.

A couple of years ago I exchanged the board room for the canyon country of the Great Plains.
And Dad's old Filson coat feels just fine, so no need to head to Cabelas just yet.

Probably the same thing that's causing things here. ::)

But the news said that there has been no warming in the past sixteen years.  I guess we can choose to believe what we want.

Has the weather changed my mind? I dunno. Global Warming is still warming things, regardless of what I think.
But that is the problem.  From the data I have seen we are not warming.
The satalite data shows we are staying consistant.  Maybe up 1/3 of a degree maybe not.
The data collection sites that have been used over the past 60 years, 85% of them have been corupted.   This was the basis of the hoaks to get research grants to study if the earth was actually warming or not. ANd if you take their data at face value they are correct the changes of vents and heat sources and well as pavement have changed the temp at thedata collection sites and they are man made factors, but are not effecting the temp in the woods 400 yards away.
The thermometer that was installed on the Airport building in 1940 now has airconditioning on the roof and is adding ot hte heat on the roof, skewing the data.  The thermometer that was on the windsock at the end of the runway is not over tarmack.  The data collection points have not moved but the enviroment around them has changed.
Water temps in the oceans have not changed.  I would think the larger thermal mass of the ocean changing would be a better indicator of what is happening.
And agian the model of man made global warming does not take the SUN into account.

but that is the beauty of the man made global warming /Climate change brain washing model.
No matter what happens the answer is man made climate change.
Rains more or Rains less = man made climate change and we need to stop what we are doing to hopefully change it back.
Snows More or Less = Man made climate change.......
Warmer of colder = man made climate change...........
Exactly the same = the efforts to make people aware of the problem and the steps that have been take to dismantle construction, manufacturing, mining, transportation, and refining as well as the use of fuels is having an effect and we need to do more to get ahead of the curve.
In the old days it was called Rain Making.  Pay me and I will make it rain.  Wait, you have not paid me enough a little more $ and I will make it rain.  Oh look here comes a storm.  Or- Sorry, I was wrong I can't make it rain and I spent all of your money.  :-[ Catch me if you can  ::)

The earth was cooling down from the 1940-1970s
So just wait till the earth tilts back and we will be cooling down again.
I learned this waaaaaaay back in the 60's.
I knew back then we were not really headed into an ice age.
And I also knew that the earth was going to warm up,,,,,for awhile.
