« on: November 07, 2012, 04:15:06 AM »
Wow. Just looking at some of the new catalogues listing the new barrel prices. They are a staggering amount.
It won'tbe long till you will be paying 250 t0 275 for a used one.

Hate to see it.

I just got into Encores a little over a year ago. Bought a 223 decided I wanted a silenced rifle so I spent a lot of money on a 300 whisper barrel. Shot a couple of hogs with it at night  they left,so I got rid of that barrel and got me a 45 70 barrel I really like to shoot that cannon. But none of them have shot like some of my old rifles. I change the barrels and have to get the new barrel to shooting like I want it to.When I got into encores it was a great idea change the barrel and change the hunt. Not so, I worry about not shooting where I want to hit. The Encore rifles are neat but they are too expensive for the amount of work they require to hunt successfully. But just please don't try to take my 45 70 Encore away its a neat shooting rifle.

Well, I will not be spending $250 to $275 for a used barrel no matter how high the pie-in-the-sky price goes.  That said, I hope the price goes up as then I'll make a nice profit on my barrels when I sell them.  T/C (now S&W) needs to take a look at what other switch barrel systems that are better than theirs cost before they let their prices get too out of line.

When I got into the Contender/Encore thing years ago I was excited about the barrel/caliber switch thing. Didn't take long for me to learn that if I get a caliber shooting like I want it to on a specific frame then I need to leave it alone and start with another frame and caliber barrel if I want something different. I have a 20 " 45 LC barrel by MGM on my Encore and wouldn't take it apart for anything. Three shots touching at 100 yards with a hot pistol round is pretty cool in my book.
