Moose Federation Salvage Program
« on: November 03, 2012, 08:40:42 AM »
I am a member of the Alaska Moose Federation.  We just got a new tasking to pick up Moose hit on the road and deliver them to folks that are on a list to receive them.  Here is a video of what we do.  I'm on stand-by today for a retrieval if one happens.  We go out and pick up the dead Moose, then take it to the folks home.  It's a lot safer than having someone dressing it out on the side of the road.  Plus it gives them the ability to take their time and do it right.  Get help if needed.  It also prevents a gutpile being left on the side of the road to draw predators, and create more wildlife and vehicle collisions.  Here is a video of what we do.

After I watched the Alaska Federation Video, I saw this one and decided to watch it.  If you look close you can see the bullet and air disturbance at the bullets high point.  He has me beat, my furtherest so far has been 810 yards.  Mine turned 180 deg, stood there for about 10 seconds, then went over just like this one.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Nice job!
Having harvested one moose I can say I'd rather leave the gut pile on the highway than have it in my driveway!  :D

A lot of the people are trappers and have use of the things not ediable.  If they are not trappers they usually know one or two who will take it off their hands real fast for trap line bait.  If they have no use for it, we leave them a tarp.  Anything they don't want we pick up.  NO MEAT!  Head, legs, feet, organs, intestines, and hide.  We then dispose of it.

Hard to imagine a moose on the road.  Love those stories from Alaska just so much different than here.
I saw a 7 legged tarantula walking across the road and thought that was a big deal. Haven't seen many tarantulas  in a few years. A scorpian in my office was just another day in the desert.  ;D
Much better than a bear killing a moose by a hunting blind or wolves following you around.
