I've done it too. Used a dremel tool with sanding drum for the majority, but ordinary band saw to shorten the stock, hand saw and square to remove the pistol grip. I just removed anything that didnt feel right- avoiding the stock hole. I figure its just wood and cheap to replace if i really screwed up. I slapped a little misc wood stain on it, finished off with some 0000 steel wool, then several coats of boiled linseed oil and a final coat with buffed JPW. Not exactly pretty, but now fits the way I want.
