In an earlier post I referred to a funny movie I once saw with Jack Lemmon in the position of a man traveling to New York for a job interview. Everything goes wrong, and that's the comedy of the movie. Someone reminded me of the name of the movie.
Well, I was in the mood for a comedy last night and was able to rent it.
How times have changed!
When I originally saw it, I thought it was very funny. I was in my teens at the time.
Since then, I too have traveled for work and no longer see anything funny in the movie. It seemed to be a distillation of all the hassles one realistically encounters while traveling for work. I've experienced a good number of them myself. The movie seemed hectic and the Lemmon character hysterical.
It just hit too close to home for it to be funny this time.
However, for those of you retired guys who want to poke fun at us zombies who still work, you may want to check it out. You'll find yourself saying "I know what's going to happen next", and it does, and in a way that is so realistic it's comical.
Anyway, thanks for the reminder I'm glad I got to see it. It was quite an experience to see how much I've changed during the years.
One movie I can recommend is The Italian Job, the 2003 or 2004 remake of the movie. Very well done. It's a crime/suspense/action/thriller movie about gold thieves. Some violence, but not gory like much of today's cinema. For example, a character is shot and you see dark spots on his clothing and a thin trail of "blood" at the corner of his mouth. If there was swearing, I don't recall it. It certainly wasn't a lot, and I usually notice such things. You could watch this movie with your wife. One of the main characters is a woman safe cracker that's very charismatic.
