Rage Crossbow Broadheads.

I used mechanicals last season, forget the brand just now, but they worked well in my compound bow.  With the X-bow for some reason they did not open.  I had a complete pass through on a doe at 20 yds and only 1 of the 3 blades appears to have opened at all.  I've gone back to fixed 100 gr THunderheads.

I have been hunting with a x-bow for over 10 yrs. My first mechanical boadhead were Spitfire 100 GR. These work great so long as you take the time to disassemble and clean thoughly after every deer. I did retire them after 10 years though, the last deer I shot one out of the three blade did not diploy. But I will get more in the future! I now have G5 mechanical broadheads and these are great too. I do warn you to becareful resetting the blades, but they work great. I have never had a deer go more than 100 yards, and the only reason that buck made it 100 yards is because he pinballed off every tree going downhill! Most have fallen within sight of my tree!

I went with the Stryker (Bowtech) Stryke zone 350, fastest archery tool I have owned. With it set to launch a total wt. of 400g bolt and broadhead at 350 fps I thought I would inquire what a few others were using in their SZ 350s. They are all running the 100g Grim reaper.  Accuracy has been great, truely goes where my field points do. Took my first turkey with this package yesterday @ 15yards Couldn't be happier with my choices.

I stopped using them after injuring three deer from inadequate penetration.  Two of the three were hit perfectly and the bolt did not penetrate well enough for a clean kill.  Deer one 1 I  believed to be a fluke occurence, deer two was not hit ideally and I believe I clipped the shoulder, deer three was recovered only after it forced the arrow through an artery while running through some saplings. Nonetheless,  I felt the bow was losing too much velocity to the mechanical operation of the  head and I did not want to risk wounding another animal.  I tossed the shockwaves and installed thunderheads, penetration problems went away.  My friend has a vision and swears by rage heads.  Perhaps with a higher velocity bow I would experience different results.  For info, my original crossbow was shooting 220 fps.  I may try them with my new bow if fixed blades won't group.

I know this is pretty late , but my buddy uses the rage 125gr 2 blade and shot a spike horn with it this last week end and it did a great job, good entry and exit wounds. The only thing he doesn't like is the blades got messed up and he went to replace them but you have to use a hammer and punch to drive out a pin I guess.

Used the Rage 2 blade 100 grn in a Barnett Jackall 315fps. Shot thru a buck left shoulder to the right ham and kept going to who knows where from 30 yards. Deer went 15yards maybe. 2" cut in 2" cut out.  250 lb dressed boar broadside shot high thru the plates and broke his back full penetration but the arrow stayed in till he rolled on it breaking it off both sides.  1 1/2" in and 1 1/4" out bent one blade but the broadhead is still fixable. I'm going to stay with them for deer,but not for hogs. $21 dollars a shot is steep for shooting a feral hog. Redhead Gators $29 reg or on sale for $19.99 sale are similar and have good reviews but I have yet to shoot game with one so ask around on them they might save you $20.

ive done a bit of studying the last couple days on the internet on this very subject. Seems alot of the lack of penetrations is coming from the fact that a crossbow launchs an arrow more violently and mechanicals can tend to open prematurely right out of the bow. A few companys have addressed this with a bit stouter blade retention. I think next year i will try them. Or at least go to a 100 grain fixed. I had about 30 thunderhead 125s left over from my compound days and just hate wasting them but have found that in the two crossbows i have accuracy really deteriorates out past 30 yards. With practice points i can shoot groups 3 times better at 50 yards then i can with broadheads. Id about bet open on impact broadheads would fly as good as practice points. I even saw where many convention compound bow shooters were sighting in there 20 and 30 yard pins with conventional broadheads and sighting there 40plus pins with open on impact and carrying both styles with them.

send them to me, but you might want to
try what i use on mine. there is a thing
called montana black gold guide ring
which is a moulded plastic ring that
slips on the black of those broadheads
and all but does away with wind planing.
i aways put a drop of super glue on mine
where the back of the blades fit in the slots
on the ring.

I use Aftershock Archery tremors 125gr. now and like them a lot but when I go to buy new ones I'm going with their new XPR broadheads. The only thing I hear bad about the tremors is that if you don't get a pass through then there won't be much of a blood trail cause they open on the inside, but the new XPR series has cut on impact cutting blades. Also they fly just like my field points, plus their made in Michigan.

My uncle used my back-up crossbow, a older horton yukon sl  shooting a 450gr arrow about 250fps, and shot a doe about 30 yds out, hit it high in the spine. The broadhead broke the top of one rib ,went through the vertebrae and the tip was just poking out the skin on the off side, the blades and ferrule looked great still.

Rage 100 grain 2" 2 blade.  The most impressive wound channel I have ever seen from a broadhead.

Last year was my first year to hunt with an xbow. I have the Barnett Wildcat which is supposed to shoot about 320fps and with the Rage 2 blade 125gr I hit a doe last year at 20 yards and the bolt blew right through her, cutting ribs on both sides. It sounded like you hit a 2x4 with a hammer when the bolt hit her. She ran about 40-50 yards and was completely bled out with very impressive entry and exit. Another thing I liked was the fact that the practice arrow they send with the 3 broadheads hits exactly where my field points hit. I'll use them again. Charlie
