How many of you use a peep sight on your Thompson Center Hawken rifles and what type?

About a year ago I posted the same question and folks here lead me to a Lyman 57 that I have just recently started to work with. It is definately a very big improvement for older eyes and so far shows a lot of promise for very accurate shooting.

Lyman 57, without screw-in aperture. Bead up front. Sighted so center of bead is zeroed at 100 yds. I put the bead where I want the bullet to go. Bead diameter covers about 8" at 100 yds.

Thanks for the replies!
With the lyman 57 sight, can this be mounted without any tapping and drilling?
Also  " wallypedal', was your rifle already set up with a bead or did you take the factory blade sight off and replace with a bead?

Greenrivers, are you using a bead front sight or the original blade front sight?

I did replace the front sight with the bead type, from T/C. The rear sight mounted to existing screw holes without problems.

I am using the original front sight, but will paint it using a luminesant paint that Cabela's sells. I put it on the front sight of  one of my lever guns with the Marbles tang and it does really help. As far as mounting, the Lyman does require two holes in the tang. Some early rifles were tapped I am told. Mine was not, but it is a very easy job. The sights are a little expensive, but they adjust easily, work well and add to the value and esthetics's of the rifle. As others have said, less expensive sights are available and some have even made their own and also look very effective.

Used TCs receiver sight and a fiber optic front sight on my New Englander works well for my old eyes.

Yes, my .54 cal made from a kit was tapped from the factory. Good luck with the project!

Either the Lyman or the T/C peep will require drilling and tapping of one hole on the tang. I have used both with the T/C currently on my 54 Hawken. The Lyman is a great sight but kind of bulky compared to the T/C.
