Power Rod
« on: July 24, 2012, 09:54:26 AM »
Any of you have the T/C Power Rod? If so how do you like it? Wondering because reviews seem very mixed. I have a fine range rod and just wanting something not hard on the hand when reloading afield. Would one of the rubber palm savers, I could carry in a pocket, be a better choice?

I use a short starter and the ball handle on it has a hole for the regular ram rod

don't waste your money on a power rod, I had one and the first day on the range the Handle broker off, So i replaced it with a standard TC ram rod and use the red rubber Handle.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just keep using the original rod and pick up a T/C palm Saver.

no problems with my power rod.  I like it.  Way back when in the early 70's until five years ago I used a piece of round tree limb.  I cut a four inch piece about 2 inches thick off a Locust limb and drilled it to accept the ram rob for my Hawken.  I used it with every muzzleloader I ever owned and still rides in my muzzleloader bag.

Got the power rod on my Omega for 4 or 5 seasons now and no problems. I do use the T/C EZ glide (yellow) sabots and also like those.

I never had good luck w/ the power rod. Always seemed to break the handle very quickly. I always used a short ball starter w/ my ram rod until this year when I started using blackhorn 209 powder & the red SST-ML sabots from hornady. They're the easiest loading, most accurate sabot I ever used & that BH 209 powder is way cleaner than even 777 & my groups tightened up considerably after switching powder. I'm getting sub 1" groups at 100 yds out of my 209 x 50 encore pro hunter w/ 100 gr of BH. I shot 24 loads at one session just to try & debunk the "clean shooting powder" stories my buddy was telling me & I must say the 24 th load went in easier than the 1st one did on a clean dry bore w/ no noticeable loss in accuracy & after 24 it was cleaner than shooting 3 or 4 loads w/ 777. I couldn't debunk his claims & instantly switched powders & haven't looked back. Good luck.
