Bigfoot throwing things.
« on: December 09, 2012, 04:51:58 AM »
We moved into a new place about 6 weeks ago. It's out in the country on 400 acres. I have a pretty big barn about 50 yards behind the house with a tin roof. Ever since I've been here I hear things dropping onto the tin roof.  :o you guys think big feet is throwing things at my barn?  ;D

Could be sticks or acorns or the like being blown off of trees and hitting the roof.  Might be that, but it's probably Bigfoot.

It's that big pecan tree at the corner of the barn.

Prolly flaming brimstone flying up out of a dimensional rift inside the barn. Might want to install a sprinkler system in there...

There are no oak or pecan trees near the barn.  :D & we have water runout there to water the stock. I'll be sure to keep a hose handy to cool the brimstone.  ;)

Thanks for the suggestions.

I would recommend one of two things. Move to the city where there are no big feets, chubachabras, jackalopes, huphelumps or woosles.
Or call Al Gore and see what's taking so long to solve the global warming crisis. I bet you could end up making a lot of money off of the closest company that has a huge carbon footprint for your barn making noises. Just in case would leave a pack of beef jerky out at the barn if you decide to stay though. Wouldn't be good if bigfoot showed up and you didn't have beef jerky. May also save the chubacabras from eating the horses.  ;D

Just funning with ya pastorp. Tin roofs do that when they cool down at night. Sometimes when they warm up in the morning as well. The panels expand and contract. Sometimes you will hear the loud pop followed by something rolling down the roof. Usually a nail head but could be any number of things. Sometimes the whole barn will creak as the wood cools down at night.

Well moving into town is not a option. & that's final.  ;) I haven't lived in a town since I was a kid.
Alaska bush villages are different than a town, I can handle that or the ranch but not a town.  >:(

Well I've got another problem the past few days frogs have been trying to take over my swimming pool. What ya think about that? I've been nice & netted them out & tossed them over the fence 3 days in a row. But the next day their back. So yesterday I added a jug of chlorine. That slowed them down some and netted them out & we had frog legs for supper. Worked, when I checked the pool this morning there were no frogs.

Have a good day,

I always had trouble with bats falling in the pool. I figured they were trying to get a drink like a swallow does. Or they were just ding bats and messed up when trying to catch a bug. Got tired of netting them out so I lashed an oar to the deck where they could climb out after they fell in.
Coarse your problem could be bigfeets calling them in cause he's wantin' frog legs himself. Heard a fellow calling a bigfoot on tv and he sounded a little like a bull frog.  :D
Have a good Christmas Pastorp. Can't blame ya' for wanting to stay in the sticks.

I got steel roofs on both my cabins and after it rains and freezes, the next morning when the sun hits it, the ice drops off the chimney cap and slides down the roof.
Took me awhile to find that. Also, steel roofs are noisy with contraction and expansion.
I had my 45-70 with me just in case, cause I'm low on jerky and I aint sharin with no hairy ape.  ;)

Well we got to be careful.  ;) my eyesight has gotten so bad I have started carrying a shotgun most of the time. But do you think a 3" brenekee magnum slug would be enough to slow him down.
That is if you believe BF can be shot.

Regards, & merry Christmas.

PastorP: The critters CAN be shot, but they are hard to bring down. Many well documented cases of that, and a few reports of them having been killed. I would advise anyone not to shoot one unless it was an absolute "have to" case. These things usually mess with folks that live in their foraging areas from about midnight to daybreak. It's the males that do that, and they seldom hunt and forage alone. Throwning pebbles, small sticks, acorns, nuts, etc at buildings, campers, tents or campers are not signs of aggression; they are just clowning around. If it is Bigfoot throwing small stuff at the barn, they mean you no harm. Shooting one for that kind of stuff would be a bad mistake. Other people have done that and it did not work out well.

Here's some brief description from longer reports of BF being shot, some of which I investigated and wrote about.

I agree with Tal, do not shoot a BF unless it's in the gravest circumstances.

If it is a BF tossing stones on the barn roof, just ignore it, it's not aggression.  This is typical primate behavior.

Try leaving a box with apples, peaches or other fruit about 50 yards from the barn, but between the the nearest woods and the barn as an offering.

It is my considered opinion BF  has a thick, tough, layer of fat (like a hogs gristle-plate) that acts as a sort of protection and energy-absorbing  cushion against gunshots.   A marginally wounded BF (especially a male) would most likely be extremely aggressive and have little issue with hurting you. If they are in a group, then you would have multiple combatants.

If you get lucky (unlucky) and kill a lone creature with one shot,  you may have serious legal complications.  Did you know there is a federal law (no I can't recall the law number) that says a person coming in contact w/ a biological entity or biological matter that MAY be deemed hazardous or a pandemic threat to the general population can be held indefinitely by federal authorities until they deem the person safe?

There are other POSSIBLE  legal issues that I won't go into here. The reason I won't go into those reasons are they are based on a hypothesis that has yet to be proven by empirical evidence.

I see more than one bigfoot referred to as "bigfoots".  shouldn't that be "bigfeet"?

we don't say " my foots hurt".  we say "my feet hurt".

The report is huge, here are a few lines to show what law may be used if a person shoots, kills a BF and they want to detain that person (s).
27. What laws govern federal isolation and quarantine?

Under section 361 of the Public Health Service Act, CDC may apprehend, examine, detain, or
conditionally release persons with certain communicable diseases that are listed in an Executive
Order of the President, i.e., “quarantinable diseases.” This includes the authority to quarantine
and isolate persons to prevent the spread of these diseases. (42 U.S.C. § 264),
Also under 42 U.S.C. § 264, CDC may apprehend and examine individuals traveling from one
state into another if the CDC Director reasonably believes that such individuals may be infected

20

with a quarantinable disease in its qualifying stage. A qualifying stage means that the disease is
in a communicable stage, or a pre-communicable stage, but
only if the disease would be likely to

cause a public health emergency if transmitted to other individuals. Additionally, the Director

must reasonably believe that the individual is moving or about to move from one state into

another or constitutes a probable source of infection to other individuals, who while infected

with such disease in its qualifying stage, will be moving from one state into another. If such

individuals are found to be infected, they may be detained as reasonably necessary.

Federal regulations governing quarantine and isolation are found in the Code of Federal

Regulations at 42 CFR parts 70 and 71. Part 70 governs interstate quarantine and isolation,

while part 71 deals with foreign quarantine and isolation. In November, 2005, CDC proposed

revisions to its federal regulations governing quarantine and isolation. At the time of publication

of this report, the final quarantine regulations were expected to be published in the near future.
