a.l. get you some of that acorn rage
stuff in a bag and see what gives.
i'd never tried it and it seems to work good.
scattered around about a tablespoon at
the time for about a cup-cup and a half's
worth. not the whole bag. i must say, i've
also been scattering about a cups worth
of acorns too at the same time.

Richard, your experience thus far this season echos that of many of us here for several years. The herd has learned over time that this is the time to be nocturnal and/or sit tight & hang low. Only the young and/or stupid are moving during the day.
I dont know if you do your own butchering or not, it has become pretty expensive up here. Once that is added in to the costs, and if the deer is small, it can be some high priced meat. We did the calc some years back and decided if we didnt bring any to bag that we would allocate that money toward buying a selection of meats (when on sale, of course) for the freezer. Beef sirloin, pork, turkey (after t-day), etc.; no more spent than paying the butcher and we had a better selection and, actually, more pounds of meat.
Yeah, it ain't venison, but it eats good...... ;D , way better than thin soup.

I don't know if you do your own butchering or not, it has become pretty expensive up here.

I always did up until some 20 odd years ago.  One morning back then I killed a doe then a buck a few minutes apart.  Now you got to understand I was hunting in the midwestern part of Jawja and these were two of the "Wisconsin" whitetails of local legand.  Bigggg deer!   ;D

By the time I finished butchering those two I'd had enough of deer processing to last me a while!   ::)  From that day until last year I took them to a processor.   ;)  The last time I went the cost was a flat $65 cut up and wrapped.  Not bad if the deer has some size to it, but when you bring in a buck that weighs 80 pounds with the legs, hide and head still on, or an even smaller doe, it gets hard to justify.   :-\  Darn Island deer!   >:(

Nowadays I know just how much of what Kathie and I will use in a year.  I can cut it, or grind it, or cube it and then vacuum pack it.  It's even kind of rewarding when the deer are so small you can plop the whole carcass down in the kitchen!   ;D

'course,  :-\  I got to kill me a deer first...  :'(

I just shot a 100 lbs (???) button buck monday, and while I was kind of disappointed about how small he was, I didn't mind dragging him, especially after the "real" buck got me tired first.  I was really appreciative when it came time to put him in my hitch haul.  all I had to do was put right hand on both back ankles, left hand on the front ankles, squeeze and hoist.

squeeze and hoist, that's how it outta be!
