Hey have you given any thought to the Sadle makers course there at hidecrafter DB? Bill Gomer is one of the best leather carvers and saddlemakers I have seen. He lives and has a shop not 30 minutes from here but he drives down to hidecrafter each year to do that saddle makers course. only $1400.00 and you get a nice saddle out of it.
Used to be a 15 1/2" Cliff Wade roper.

Roy I have thought about it a few times.   There arent alot of folks around that can make em or repair em.

1400 is alot of money though.....especiallly since I have small kids.  Maybe some day.

Do you know if Bill Gomer runs classes in his shop in Leavenworth?  I would love to learn how to make a saddle.  I have always threatened my wife with the fact that when I retire in 25 years, I am either turning to saddle making or raising goats and making cheese.  I have even threatened making saddles for goats, that one scares her the most.

He sure does however the cost of the full blown Saddle class is about 4 grand but he has a video which I am told is pretty in depth it costs 79.

The Tandy store in KC in the Brywood Shopping center at 63rd and Blue Ridge, has a sign up sheet for a possible Bill Gomer Saddlers basic course like the one at hidecrafters which would likely be the same cost.

You can contact Bill at 913-727-1606 he would love to talk to you about making saddles!
He also has an apprentice who builds saddles in OP KS, his name is Howel Wright.
