Sad as it all is, what we have here is a case of two "gonna live forever" teens involved in a confrontation with a true psychopath. I was never into burglary or anything even at my most rambunctious, but my folks tried to instill in me the idea that everyone YOU pick to do wrong to is NOT going to be a law abiding citizen. When my stepson went through his teen years, I used to tell him the same thing. My point is, thousands of kids disappear every year. A big proportion are teenagers. You never know what kind of crap your teen is getting into when they're not at home. My bet is at least some of them disappear because of incidents like this.
Having said that, this incident raises some questions. My number one question is what the hell was this guy DOING in that basement? Did he have a pot growing set-up? Meth lab? What I am reading is that he had time to clean up that basement before he called the cops. Both guns he used were .22s. In a brick house, a .22 would be barely audible from outside, and near silent from the basement. A .22 is NOT the first choice for a self defense weapon. He was set up to defend something, and not get caught. There's more to this story, I guarantee you.
