Yes, the M96 Swedish Mauser will handle the 8x57 with no problem or alterations other than a barrel change (or re-bore & re-chamber job). All rifles are individuals, so there's always the chance the action might need some very minor tuning for feeding and function. I would rate the chance of that at less than 1%, though.

Swedish Mauser in 8x57 Mauser?

The question is,  Why?

There are way too many reasonable priced 8X57s on the market to bother.

Course in gun projects, "cause I want to" is good enough.

Yes, but why would you want to??????  After all, what can be better than the Swede in 6.5x55mm?

Naw......I disagree Big Bill!

No one should mess up a Swede!  There are too many other mauser actions out there to sacrifice even one Swede!

Gentlemen,

You really need to learn to read the questions and who posted them. I didn't post it, all I did was answer it.

Rocky, Big Bill, TC Louis,

Apologies for the mis-Q.  The message should have been sent to Advocate who inquired originally.  Yes, too much green eggs and ham  and all that's sooooo good (or perhaps the eggnog had a touch too much nutmeg)!  Hope you all had a memorable Merry Christmas and Santa was good to ya!

Big Bill, Mama gave me a subscription to "Gun List".  Do you get it? How's it compare to Shotgun News? I found "www.outdoor-source.com" has 6.5x55mm S&B Ammo $10.39/ $10.59 box.

Advocate......When are you going to jump on board and join us?

I bought my 96 as a barreled action rechambered in 6.5X284.  Its new barrel will be in .250 Sav.  I have a .260 Rem. and a .260 AI. so I don't need another 6.5 yet.
