What can you tell me about a 38 Special Victory model?
« on: November 26, 2012, 02:40:32 AM »
I bought one a couple months ago, had no idea what it was until after the purchase.   The lanyard ring was missing, I just obtained one here to make the gun all original again.  My intent was obtaining a plus P capable revolver for a lady friend to use for protection, I've now found that firing plus P through this revolver is a no-no.  I'm probably gonna need to sell it so I can get back to the original plan of arming a defenseless woman.  I just hope I can get at least the $300 I paid when I do sell.   BTW: Thought it does possess the V prefix serial number, it does not show any army or navy markings, this making me believe it was issued for guarding something here in the states.

Good guns.  Collectable.  Many if not most were made in 38 S&W, not 38 Special because they were sent to countries where the S&W round was prevalent.  Some Spl conversions are good, others are unsafe.  The bore on the S&W is too tight for the Spl, so re chambering the cylinders makes for an unsafe gun.  Check your bore.  If you have put some +p specials though it, I'll guess that if the bore was undersized you'd know by now  ;) .  Don't get me wrong, there were many, many of them made in 38Spl for US forces and security domestic use.

All that said, they are valuable and you will find it a new home.  (If I had $300 to spend right now, I'd have PMed you about it.) Another option (assuming it's a good conversion or an original Spl, and the good ones are pretty common, you just have to check to be sure)  is just give it to her with standard 38 specials.  +p is better, but regular old 38Spl is good too.  That has the advantages of 1- no more gun buying and selling, move straight to 'armed woman'. 2- she is armed and in posession of an American military antique which is apreciating in value.  Protection and investment, not bad.

Got pics?  I do love me some good gun eye candy......
