375 cal light weight bullets
« on: December 05, 2012, 03:28:30 PM »
Have a 375 super mag 8 in barrel all the jacketed bullets are very expensive and to heavy a jacket for that vel the lightest i could find is 200 gr sierra i would like to buy some light ones about 170 gr gas check with lead soft enough to open up on deer at about 1500 fp.s I dont see why it wouldn't work a standered weight 41 mag shoots a 170 gr. with about the same case capacity .The gun has a 18.75 - 1 twist and i was told that a 220 gr would be max weight that would shoot accuratly i guess i could go with soft lead gas check but prefer something around 170 gr. although  i have been reloading for about 45 yrs i dont mess with lead bullets so can i buy some ,if so where.   Thanks

there is a guy on gunbroker that sells oddball cast bullets from obsoelte Lyman molds.teh olny one i an think that would fit the bill would be Ideal #37582 but isn't a GC design. The 37583 is more common but its 145g and also plainbase.

another option is to buy common .40 cal cast bullets and buy push trough die for you loading press and size them to .377.(custom size from lee or have a machinist make you one) I size an 8mm(.324) bullet to 310 and it shoots just fine. You probably wont want to drive them to top velocity but it will be economical to shoot your pistol.I bet you could get 1400 fps with no problems.
