Line-throwing cannon video
« on: November 21, 2012, 08:10:05 AM »
I just came across this cannonmn vid that I hadn't seen before; and if you use the stop button you'll be able to see the projectile of the middle (gray) gun turning in mid-air with the weighted end facing forward (not a physical mystery, but I thought it was interesting to see). The second shot got a little risky in my opinion, it seemed to me like the guy working the middle gun was a tad too close for comfort to the muzzle of the rescue cannon on the left.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Speaking of line guns, how many of these can you identify?  I don't have info on the last one in this slideshow.  The tube looks like a Bronze Gun "C" but it is larger and cast iron.  Trunnion mark with date is I'm sure phony, forget it.  The muzzle mark "111" is real.  Use password "attack" for slideshow.

I've never seen an iron model before, but it certainly bears a striking resemblance to the bronze gun.
