Good idea/ Bad idea. .45/.410?
« on: November 22, 2012, 04:28:33 PM »
Reading information on chamber adapters for shooting .22 out of .223 at www.mcace.com I realized they require a "Simple plug with a firing pin" that extends the firing pin and adapts it to work with the rimfire round.

Would it be possible to build a plug like this to allow firing .45acp out of this gun or a .45lc?

You guys will eventually get used to my insomnia inspired rantings.

Someone that is a good lathe operator might say otherwise but I don't believe it would work because you wouldn't have enough wall thickness. I have a couple of the MCA .22lr/.223 adapters and they work as advertised but you're dealing with a thicker wall thickness there. I don't think it would have anything to do with the back end of the adapter. You would still want the primer to be contacted directly by the firing pin.

Bad Idea!  The bore diameter of a .410 is 0.410" give or take few thousands.  A 45LC or 45ACP bullet ranges from .451 to .454 so not good.  Also, no rifling so the bullet will be unstable.  Just buy a 45/410 barrel or gun as it has the proper bore ID and has rifling.

I agree with Bikerbeans, it's a good excuse for another rifle or another barrel at least.
