lyman 50 flint the good bad n ulgly info?

thinking of trading for one and wanted to know the good bad and ugly info on them
its a 50 cal flint 1;48 barrel in good shape bore good
any info would help

I have a .54 caliber flintlock Lyman GPR, purchased used from a forum member some time back. Not 1:48" twist, but am very well pleased with its accuracy. No hangfires, no misfires. Quick, instaneous ignition. There's only good, no bad, no ugly in my humble opinion.

good to read thanks the one im thinking of trading for is a deerstalker with brass parts
 wonder if its the same quilty as the gpr you have

I have no experience with Lyman's Deerstalker but feel certain the brass parts you're speaking of are simply the furniture (i.e buttplate, triggerguard, forearm cap, etc. All lock parts and trigger internals will be steel. I can't imagine you'd have a problem with gun.

I have two Deerstalkers, both .54's, percussion, and flint. Good shooters, however no brass on either. Sounds like you are talking about a Lyman Trade rifle. You can't go wrong with a traditional Lyman ML.

I own several Deerstalkers as well, both 54's, one flint, one percussion.  They are made in Italy by Investarms to Lyman specs, and are well made rifles.  I have taken a number of deer with mine, and am happy with the performance.  The Trade Rifle is similar to the Deerstalker, except for the brass fittings instead of blackened iron, and I think that model has a curved but plate as apposed to the Deerstalkers flat rubber recoil pad.

cool i did not ask him if it had a plate or pad ill have to check in on that before i drive over i want a pad shoulder surgery calls for pad  ;)

The Lyman GPR is, arguably, the best buy available in production flint guns.
Mine, a .50 cal/1-66", is very accurate, very reliable.
At 100 yards, benched three shots.
