Buddy just picked up a Savage axis 22-250.  Took it out the other night for a few stands and connected on the second one.

I've never done night calling. Do you sweep the field of view with the periphery of the light and then drop the beam on the dog just when you shoot or do you turn the light off & on periodically til you see glowing eyes in the edge of the beam? Do you aim between the eyes or just below?

We sweep the field nonstop and then drop the full beam into the eyes just before we shoot.  We are able to completely see the animal before we shoot. The Elusive Wildlife Kill lights are outstanding and make it possible to identify targets a ways out there.

It was around 40yds, We use the red kill lights, and from my experience with the lights, they are a very good product.  We have ran them on one set of batteries for an entire coon hunt that went from 6p-2a one night.  The fact that the lights are a red LED and not a white light that has a red lens means a further beam throw.
