I had not heard the name mentioned in 2001
well, I recall him from various news stories at the time.

, so I googled... Mark Bigham, flight 93 <  ..and found a lot of controversey surrounding the idea..  Perhaps an exercise for our conspiracy theorists.. ;) ;D
In any case, if he was on the plane and did act in a heroic way..kudos to him.

What kind of controversy did you run into, that you refer to here? What conspiracy theory are you thinking of? I did find a couple links/blogs casting doubt upon Mark's role... but that's because they think 9/11 hijackings never happened

Owner, The Bingham Group, 31, San Francisco, Calif.; mother, Alice Hoglan, father, Jerry Bingham, step-mother, Karen Bingham; after a weekend in New York City, he was returning home.
Gerald "Mark" Bingham was constantly on the move. In New York, New Orleans, San Francisco or Pamplona, Spain -- he visited friends, met with clients of his public relations firm or just traveled around the world in search of good times. His exploits were the stuff of legend among his friends. The time he dressed as a transvestite lumberjack; the hours he spent in jail for tackling the Stanford University mascot at a college football game; being thrown out of New Zealand for a bar scuffle; rescuing a small girl who had wandered into traffic. He seemed a walking contradiction: gay, yet a staunch Republican; accepting, yet willing to fight bigots; a peacemaker, yet someone who once single-handedly foiled two muggers. Friends said Bingham was always smiling, always animated. As a young boy he lived on a houseboat three blocks from Miami's Orange Bowl. On Sundays when the Dolphins were in town, he and his mother would let the crowd roar wash over them. The two of them moved to Monterey, Calif. in the late 1970s. While his mother was out looking for work, the 9-year-old Bingham would go to the Monterey wharf after school and fish for their dinner. After he grew up, he used his size -- 6 feet, 5 inches, 220 pounds -- to his advantage by playing rugby. His mother, Alice Hoglan, said he first played the bruising game in high school, and she believed his personality blossomed from it. Bingham went on to play at the University of California at Berkeley, and was a member of two national championship teams in the early 1990s. Timing was a strength. He opened his public relations firm on the cusp of the high-tech growth in the mid-1990s. His mother marveled that he paid three times as much in taxes as she earned. In July, he and several friends traveled to Pamplona to run with the bulls. They dressed in the traditional white, with red sashes. The first day was so uneventful, they returned for a second running. Bingham was scooped up on the horns of a bull, tossed to the ground and stomped. He loved showing off the hoof print on the back of his left leg. "He didn't fit into anyone's mold," Hoglan said. "He was a force for good in the world. He just lived his life as if there were no tomorrow. I guess there's a lot of wisdom in that, looking at what happened."

Mark Bingham lived life to the fullest. He ran with the bulls in Pamplona. He tackled the Stanford Tree mascot at a football game. He even helped foil an armed robbery.
Sadly, Bingham died on Sept. 11, 2001. But he saved countless lives -- just how many will never be known.

The openly gay rugby player was one of the heroic passengers who led a revolt against the terrorists on board United Flight 93. The hijackers planned to slam the plane into the White House or the U.S. Capitol, according to the 9/11 Commission Report. Instead, the plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pa., killing the terrorists and passengers – but nobody else.
The most visible torchbearer of Bingham’s legacy is Alice Hoagland, his mother. After losing Bingham -- her only child -- Hoagland became a tireless advocate for things that were important to her son. Now 61, the retired United flight attendant is a proponent of aviation safety, a spokesperson for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community, and an avid supporter of rugby.Flight 93 passengers learned from cell phone conversations that the World Trade Center and Pentagon had already been attacked. Bingham – along with Todd Beamer, Tom Burnett, and Jeremy Glick – formulated a game plan to overtake the hijackers, according to accounts from the phone calls. All four men were athletes.Bingham stood 6-foot-4, weighed roughly 225 lbs., and played rugby. Beamer was 6-foot-2 and was a former basketball player. Burnett, 6-foot-3, played quarterback in high school and college. And Glick, also 6-foot-3, was a national collegiate judo champ. Hoagland is convinced their ability to think quickly, coupled with their physical strength, made a difference in stopping the plane from hitting one of its targets.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Here in leadership was Todd Beamer..a serious Christian , and Jeremy Glick..a Jew, acting together to defeat an enemy with evil intent.  God grant that this cooperation will continue...
Don't forget Mark Bingham, the 6'4" 225lb rugby player was there and working with the above named guys to fight back against the terrorists:

Went to the same school as Beamer. Mark was one of those heroes. Incidentally, he was gay... can you believe that some here would call him a funny bunny? Not to his face, of course.

the questions are how the plane moving quickly at high altitude could make a phonecall, and one that was understandable despite the signal interference.  even if true, what about the others on the planes?  correct me if I'm wrong but none of the downed planes had the terrorists outnumbered less than five to one so what gives?
