Big Hog (Hogs) On My Land

I had sent in some pics before of a big hog on my hunting land and had to guesstimate as to it's size. Was over there today putting out some fruit and vegetables I had saved up in a five gallon bucket and walked just down the hill from the feed to check out a wallow. There have been muddy trails and mud on trees here for some time but this one today was high up on a sapling. I took the pic of my leg next to the sapling. The mud comes up to my pocket. Measured when I got home and it's 34 inches to the top of the rub. I call that a big hog.

Solitary hog. Big hog.  Most males are loners when they get big.  Getting him to come out at dawn or in the daylight may be problematic.  Perhaps one of the "in heat" scents or other attractant?  He'll taste good but assure all of the musk glands are removed.  Good luck putting him down.

Yeah all the big hog pics are at night. I have a group of 5-6 eating size that have shown up several times but it's always in the middle of the day. Have tried to ambush them a few times but so far they're smarter, or luckier than me. The magazines I've read say to hunt them early and late but I don't think these guys read the articles. When it gets a bit cooler I'll try some sow in heat scent and see if I can get big boy to come see me. He has an open invitation to have part of him in my freezer and part of him as a mount on my gameroom wall.

Personally I wouldn't waste money on a bottled attractant when you have several live ones right there at your feeder in broad daylight.  When any of those go in heat, your elusive big boar will be hanging around. Either that, or hunt at night if it is legal in your area.

Sometimes hogs will push over a sapling to rub there bellies.  I think that might be what happened to the sapling in your photo.
 
I've killed some of my biggest boar hogs very late in the evening, right before dark.  If you can program your feeder, a cycle an hour before dark might be productive.

When i set up a feeder for hogs I usually set the timer to go off at 1 am. This allows me to drive the four hours to the lease after work, take a nap and be sitting there in the dark waiting. I have snuck up on the feeder many times and killed hogs busy with the corn and the hog toys.

That hog has the same outline as a year old rhino. He's a brute!

He looks like a bruiser all right!  Hunting them must be a ball..   We don't have them where i live..but I'm not longing to have them here either..

IG, I commend you for your clarity of thinking.  So many other "short-sided thinkers" DESIRE to infuse hogs into their territory for "something else" to hunt.  If you don't have them, you don't want them.  When you have them, you can't do anything about them, except shoot them.  They make a mess, run off the deer, eat incessantly, create pot holes everywhere that you are scared to drive the tractor through in fear of breaking an axle, are dirty, and are just a plain nuisance. 

When you have lemons though, it is best to make lemonade...
