Lets hear from the 17 rem reloaders.

:D Well I got my self a 17 rem 22" bull barrel from VVCG for my Contender.  I plan on using it to shoot P-dogs this year.  I am planing to use 20gr v-max's for the bullet.  Been searching the reloading books and the net for loads.  Trying to make up my mind as what load to use.  :?

Sure would like to hear what other people a using and their thoughts about it.
Happy shooting, may you hit what you aim at.

I really like the Hodgdon Extreme family of powders for their consistency and because they perform well.

I really love my .17 Rem but mine is a rem700bdl and can handle heavier loads than I feel safe for the T/C. You will find it more satisfactory than it looks on paper. I hope yours is an accurate gun.I have killed from P.D.'s to a small doe with mine(had back up).Coyote's hate this gun!
recoil is almost nonexistant, trajectory is amazingly flat. The only thing bad about the .17 is how habit forming it can be.I bought several thousand 25 grain bullets with the gun. When(if ) I use them up I'll try other weights.
I have been using I M R 4320 powder and can attest to the possibility of an over load with TINY increases of powder. You MUST start low and work up in tenths of a grain.A quarter grain increase in powder charge WILL blow primers in my gun during the summer.  jh

It looks as if we have a small club/following of 17 rem shooters on this board.
Happy shooting, may you hit what you aim at.
