Simmons Rangefinder
« on: December 13, 2012, 01:04:09 PM »
I have a buddy looking to buy a Simmons LRF600 rangefinder. He's found a used one locally for $75.00 and since I know nothing about these devices, I thought I'd ask for a few opinions.
Are these good units? How do I evaluate a used one?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks.

ill give you my opinon but its not based on brands. A 600 yard range finder is about useless. Most will only really work to about 300-350 yards reliably and most rifles used in open country are flat enough shooting that ranging isnt nessisary. Personaly i wouldnt waste a dime on one that didnt have at least a 1000 yard rating. At least then you can range out to 500 yards or a little more.

I can only relate to you that my Simmons range finder has worked great.  My friend has a much more expensive unit made by Burris and a
side by side comparison of both showed that my Simmons was within two yards of whatever the Burris showed..
