According to the Mayans...
« on: November 25, 2012, 10:49:04 PM »
According to the Mayans, how many days do we have left?  How is their prediction making any difference in your life or planning?  If you sincerely consider their predictions accurate, what will you do if that critical day comes and goes..no differently than any other?

Haven't given it any thought. My heart is right with God so I don't worry about such things.

I'm pretty much with you on that kynards...I plan on having coffee with the usual "good old boys" on the following morning.  I only asked to find out how the Mayan calendar believers are handling or plan to handle it...either way.

Oh some are saying its the second coming of Christ. That just shows how little they know about
Revelations. For one thing only God knows when that day will be, not even the Angels know the
answer to that. Another thing is, why in the world would God trust that information with a bunch
like the Mayans ? He wouldn't that's why, this all seems like just another Y2K freak show.

( oh but Anna it was the ancient aliens who told them ) Try to remember something here, fully one
third of all the Angels ever created since the dawn of time itself were cast out of Heaven. That's a whole lot of Angels, and they are very capable of manifesting themselves into anything that would
further confuse mankind. Ghost,Aliens,Bigfoot,Giants,Elves, right down to being your ex spouse!

And right now in today's world they are on a roll, you believe in Ghost your going to see a Ghost. You
believe in a Twinkie eating Bigfoot your may lose your twinkles in the woods. So what if these fallen
Angels populated other planets elsewhere and are visiting the earth. They want it back is why, they are
jealous of us and they are not our friends. And by not believing in what is taught in the bible or not being saved you are giving them what they want is all your doing.

That makes you marginal to them, they don't have to work very hard to reel you in. Just give you
what you want and let you see what you want to.Where those of us who do believe and are saved
are the enemy to them. And we are assaulted every day of every hour by them and we do not just polish our armor of God, we wear it. Ephesians verse 10

From the History Channel:
"Debunking the 2012 Myth
In recent years, popular culture has latched on to theories that the Maya predicted an apocalypse on December 21, 2012. That date corresponds to the end of the Mayan calendar’s current cycle, which lasts for 13 of the 144,000-day intervals known as baktuns. But scholars have long argued that, while Mayan astronomers saw each cycle’s conclusion as significant, they never foresaw an apocalypse. According to the researchers who studied the Xultún house, the calculations on the walls confirm once again that the Mayan calendar stretches far beyond this December. One notation in particular records an interval of 17 baktuns, a period of time that extends past the alleged doomsday.

“This sort of popular culture conception of the Maya calendar having an expiration date on it is in and of itself a fallacy,” Saturno said. He compared the system to odometers that reset to zero after 99,000 miles because they can’t display more than five digits. “If we’re driving a car, we don’t anticipate that at 100,000 miles the car will vanish from beneath us,” he said. Stuart said that, rather than covering a finite period of time, “the Maya calendar is going to keep going and keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future.”

I sincerely doubt that if the Mayans weren't capable of predicting their own end that they had a clue about the future.

I don't even give this subject a thought until I read something about it. For example this thread.

We will still be here on GBO this time next year debating some other world shaking event.  ;D

The 2012 doomsday scenario is simply a European idea. Has absolutely nothing to do with the Mayans other than the calender itself.  In fact, codexes have been found dated way past 2012 but folks ignore that because not as much drama.  ::)

I'm thinking that the guy who made the calendar either died or he just got sick of chipping calendars into stone and took up a new hobby. Either way there are going to be some disappointed folks who wake up to find 12/22/2012 is just another day.

Read somewhere that they found the other half of the stone and we are good for a lot longer. Darn will still have to pay taxes for 2013 and go through the 2016 election.

Don't forget Obams care, any hard earned gains that people have made to survive in his economy.
Are soon going to suffer a set back, and this will bring on round three of the great forclosure bank
grab. This time it will involve some of those homes that are nearly paid for.
No matter what your house payment is, these banks are playing with your escrow account payments.
My neighbor took his bank to court over this, he won the case but the lawyer cost him $4,500 to do
this. The bank just said oh well and appealed it in court, keeping him from getting anything back out
of them for another few years. Lawyers and bankers, low life sewer scum that prey on people's
misery. And to think we elect people like them to be the President ?

My take on all of this silliness is:
Either the head calendar guy died without children OR the department was eliminated due to budget cuts.

I'm more worried about "going over the financial cliff", or global warming than I am about the Mayan calendar.  But even more pressing is what the evil, lying community organizer will do next.

since we borrow 40% of what we spend, to actually start reducing the deficit, our taxes needs to double so we could stop borrowing and pay it down a little.
if they don't make massive cuts in spending, there's no way we will ever recover, because, if they doubled our taxes the new revenue would be spent on more give-away programs.
democrats are too stupid to learn from their mistakes and now the news is announcing that a lot of republicans are caving in and talking about raising rates.

It's not the prediction you have to worry about.  It's the people that trully believe the end is comming next moth that you need to watch.  Heaven's Gate occult comes to mind.  Jim Jones was another stellar person in the this area of concern....

The celestial event (aligning of the planets) around which this whole doomsday thing is supposed to happen has already occurred in '97 or '98 or somewhere around there. The event itself coincides very closely to what the new age types refer to as the ushering in of the... well, the "New Age" of this world. Supposedly, the age of Aquarius, or the age of enlightenment which can be tracked by following the "Event  of the Southern Cross".

Of course there are many different theories on exactly what is supposed to happen. I sure don't see a whole lot of enlightenment going on much of anywhere so who knows.

What it boils down to is this:It's just a basic astronomy class that explains how the ancients used mythological and astrological(representing the different ages) characters, various stars, and constellations to chart the seasons and time the movements of the planets in relation to the various ages. But it is quite interesting.

There are other things related to the subject of the Event of the Southern Cross that clash severely with Christian fundamentalists, but it could just be the evil influence of that that fallen 1/3rd to which Anna referred and you probably don't want to hear about that.
