I found this site that is awesome for ammo testing lots of "FPS" tests on turkish, yugo and romanian 8mm military surplus ammo.   I think you'll find it interesting too.

If you hit home on one of the pages information for turk mausers will come up.  Its a great site lots of info good reading on these cold nites(for some of us northern guys you southern guys can read it while tanning in the hot sun) (kidding) you may want to print this stuff out and file it.

Interesting data. I was wondering what this military ammo had in the way of bullets and fps. I have a large lot of the 1941 ball 155 gr. that I have fired in my 24" barreled K98. No signs of excessive pressure here. I guess the 5" shorter barrel helps relieve some of the excessive velocity and pressure. These rounds are hot, though. My rifle handles them easily and they shoot about 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Fouling in the barrel is terrible, although this was supposed to be non-corrosive ammo. Took me 3 hours with a half a bag of patches to get the barrel to come fairly clean after just 12 rounds the last trip to the range.

I'm loading my own ammo now, so I am going to test some of the new 185 gr Remington core-lokts from @2000 to @2500 fps. Also will test the 150 gr Sierra soft points from @2150 to @2450 fps, all with IMR 4064 powder. Will post results when I get them for those interested.
There is no more humbling experience for man than to be fully immersed in nature's artistry.

I also shoot the PMC 8MM SP ammo and on their ballastics chart they say its 2200fps so its on the lower end of the 8mm round.  Someone told me that PMC ammo was hot too but it could have the same kick/feeling as turk ammo with the heavier bullet.  The turk 8mm ammo sure is a mover at 3000fps. and 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds. sounds awesome.  The next trip to the range I'll have to benchrest my 8mm mauser project gun and i hope it does that good with turk ammo too.  I have also read a post on another site about the round nose bullets in an 8mm being one heck of a brush gun too they talked about it breaking branches and staying on target.  I guess the 8mm round is a little bullish too in brush.      BigBill

I've been an '06 guy for many years and have sworn by it, but Mikey and S.Sumner here told me of the 8mm's performance over the '06 which I will see at the range soon and when she goes varmit hunting this summer and bear hunting this fall too.  My son is going to use it and I'll back him up with my 338.  My '06 rifle is so old now that I purchased brand new and still looks new is an antique now(age) I'm going to have to retire it and were did all the years go?
